Need a few 2nd opinions. I have interest in acquiring a Taurus PT 738 as a back up firearm. Trading a Winchester Ranger 30-30 rifle for it. Both weapons are in excellent condition. Would you do it? I'm leaning toward pulling the trigger....so to speak. I'm not going to use the 30-30 anytime soon since I have a family that'll be growing and I'm more interested in being able to protect them instead of deer hunting. I'll buy a 30.06 when deer hunting becomes a possibility again.

Don't buy it. My dad and I both have one and we both experience malfunctions every single range trip. I would get a Ruger LCP. Its worth the $60 extra dollars.

Keep the .30-30 it's an excellent home defense rifle loaded with Federal 125 gr JHP ammo.

I already have a Winchester Defender 1300 shotgun for home defense.

Don't trade the Winchester, sell it outright. You'll get more for it.

Check out the Taurus forum for lots of feedback (good and bad) at http://www.taurusarmed.net/forums/index.php?board=34.0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This actually helped me to decide to buy one and I've been happy with it.
