CHL in your car at school?

Say I'm picking up my son form school and I remain in my vehicle, is it ok to be carrying concealed? The CHL handbook mentions 300 ft weapons free zone. I don't to brak the law.

300 ft zone? That's probably for non-license holders. <shrug>
As far as I know, the school premises covers the buildings, parts of buildings and anywhere a school function is happening. Driveways and parking lots are ok for CHL holders except when a school function is occuring in the driveway or parking lot.

The CHL book does not tell you that there is a 300 foot anything regarding a CHL holder.
There are 2 specific questions on the CHL test regarding this.
Texas Penal Code
§46.03. Places weapons prohibited.
(a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally,
knowingly, or recklessly possesses or goes with a firearm, illegal
knife, club, or prohibited weapon listed in Section 46.05(a):
(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational
institution, any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by
a school or educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger
transportation vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether
the school or educational institution is public or private, unless
pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the
institution;
(c) In this section:
(1) "Premises" has the meaning assigned by Section 46.035.
46.035
(f) In this section:
(3) "Premises" means a building or a portion of a building.
The term does not include any public or private driveway, street,
sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking
area.

what about a day care, its not listed specifically, but is it considered a school?

School is ok in the parking lot and day care is ok in the parking lot. Keep it in the car. If there is a science fair in the school parking lot, make sure it stays away from it.

So long as "school" is undefined, daycare centers remain in question. A great many of them include "school" in their name, and promise some degree of education, rather than just simple babysitting services.

The 300 ft. zone you refer to is where, if the school has posted a "weapon-free" school zone sign, the penalties for certain firearm-related crimes are bumped up to the next higher level. Paraphrasing here, not an attorney.
