Well another opportunity to discuss a firearm,

First off does anyone own one of these Walther's PPS 9mm Pocket Guns

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated enabling us to make an informed decision...

Need the good, bad and ugly, if there is any?

Planned usage is a pocket gun for the wife. She's not happy with the 380 and that's why we're selling it, posted in Firearm for sale forum, so she all she really shoots the 9mm and really enjoys it she's interested in the Walther.

So, all information would be appreciated!

I've got one, and love it. *I* think it's got a soft, manageable recoil but that's wildly subjective. Very accurate, and of course very flat. The 6/7/8 round magazines give you nice flexibility; I carry mine 7+1, and an 8 round spare.

I did have the spring which retains the slide lock lever slip out of place. Wound up sending it to S&W (the Walther importer) customer service. Came back promptly, and have had no issues since. I've easily got 2000 rounds through mine. Everyone who shoots it is very surprised/impressed with it.

If you were in Houston, you could test drive mine @ the range.

I've never handled one, but it sounds like a neat little gun. I'll be looking to see one up close at the next gun show I attend.

RHENRIKSEN... Is it small enough to be a pocket gun. The wife is looking for a pocket gun and I thought this would be perfect, but what are your thoughts?

Held, shot, and admired one but don't own one.

But I wouldn't classify it as a "Pocket Gun".

In my opinion a Kahr PM9 is barely a pocket gun. Any bigger and you have pretty big pockets!

Not a pocket gun in my opinion. Just a bit too large for pocket carry. I bought and sold one, not that there was anything wrong with it, it was just not for me. Very accurate and it ate several different types of ammo I fed it. It felt like good quality and very manageable recoil.

I started to buy ne, even ordered a holster for it, then read about the "slide lock lever" issues, and bought:
1) Taurus PT-709
2) Keltec PF-9

I've never fired or carried the Keltec

I like the Taurus for the a) thumb safety b) double strike capability c) trigger action

That said, I don't packet carry, they are a little big.

Kahr PM9 is smaller, and I think SIG is coming out with a smaller one not yet on the market, and I'd expect some others will.

Microtech still promises (Since January 2010) that they are finishing up building a new plant to make the Archangel MCP 9mm (MCP= MicroCompactPistol)

(Reminds me when I used OS/2 32 bit operating system, because Windows wasn't, and everyone said Windows NT stood for NewTechnology, but it was NotThere imaginary vaporware due to missed release date problems at Microsoft)

Nope, definitely not a pocket gun. It's thin profile makes it easy to conceal IWB or in a shoulder holster, but the length & height pretty much rule out pocket carry.

Exactly what I found when trying out the PPS (both 9/40). The Walther is a really good choice for IWB carry, but I opted to stay with the PM9 since its slightly smaller size and lesser weight do make pocket carry possible... just barely.

I've owned a PPS 9mm for more than a year and love it. Very accurate for a 3-inch barrel. Been itching to shoot an IDPA BUG match with it. This is my go-to gun when I must dress "professionally" - just tuck my collared shirt over the PPS in Crossbreed Supertuck holster and I'm ready to go. It disappears while tucked and is very comfortable to carry.

As far as it being a "pocket gun", it's not really but CAN be pocket carried if necessary. To give you a better idea of this, I'll compare it to some other guns I've pocket carried:

The PPS is easier to pocket carry than a "baby" Glock, but not as easy as a PM-series Kahr. And it's not in the same category as a pocket .380 like Ruger LCP or Kel-Tec P3AT or a pocket .38 revolver like Smith & Wesson J-frame Airweight.

Any gun that can be concealed in a pocket is not necessarily a "pocket gun". I'm a big guy (6-1, 275) and thus the pockets on my pants are rather large. So in a pinch I can stick a mid-size semi-auto in my front pocket. But I don't recommend it for extended carry.

All of this also depends greatly on the cut of your pants, how tight you wear them etc.
