This has puzzled me ever since it happened. I'd be interested in hearing yall's opinion.

I was driving in a group of cars all doing about 10 mph over the limit. As I approached a curve I noticed a LEO step out of the shadow of a building and speak into his radio. We made instant eye contact and I knew that I was going to be pulled over.

Sure enough as I passed the very next cross street a police cruiser came flying into the intersection and pulled right up behind me. I knew I was speeding a little bit, just going with the flow of traffic. What puzzled me was why I was singled out? Anyway, I had just got on a very long bridge crossing a lake so I knew he would wait till we crossed to light me up. I could see in my rearview mirror that he had run my plates.

I moved over into the right lane as we approached the end of the bridge and he instantly switched with me. I began to slow down and just started to pullover ( he still hadn't lit me up yet) when for reasons I can't explain he pulled into the left lane and passed me and then quickly made a U turn.



Possible reasons he didn't light me up:

1. He knew from running my plates that I had a CHL and considered me to be one of the good guy's. (slim but possible)

2. They were looking for someone in a Truck that matched mine and discovered that I wasn't him. (more likely)

I've never had anything like that happen to me. Very odd experience.

If you're not a cute blonde in a sports car, and you don't fit someone's idea of a drug courier profile, it's probably number 2.

I don't know how long it takes to run a license plate, but it has to be more than a few seconds. The last time I had a LEO encounter (not a traffic stop) it took about half an hour. I suspect they went to the feds.

or heard a call for assiatance from another oficer etc.

BTW, it only takes a few seconds, generally, to run a plate.However, to see that you have a CHL would mean the dispatcher of officer would have to take the registered owners name and run a DL on the name. without a DOB, that can be time consuming.
