03 C&R FFL

Yesterday, I filled out and mailed off my application for a C&R FFL. For $30, it seemed like a no-brainer to me. I've been wanting to start collecting older firearms, and particularly military firearms, for years. My Dad had a wonderful collection of hunting rifles and shotguns when I was young, but after he passed away, we sold almost all of them to make ends me. I am finally at a point in financially where I can start to approach this hobby. Any other, more experienced "crufflers" on board here? What advice would you give me as far as who to buy from, who gives good discounts to 03 FFL holders, etc? Any publications I should be picking up to help get educated?

I'm Into my third C&R renewal license. There's lots of good stuff out there you can mail order.

I think I read someplace that you have to keep a log book of your C&R purchases and sales that the BATF can come and look at any time.
If that's true, does it affect any C&R stuff you owned prior to getting the 03 license or any of your firearms that are not C&R?
I have thought about getting an 03 license but I don't want to have to deal with the feds banging on my door wanting to "see my papers". Is that an issue?
Regards, OE

By everything I have read, you are required to keep a "Bound Book" logging transactions of your C&R collection. The ATF can schedule an inspection once a year, but they must schedule it ahead of time, you can do it at your home or their office, and it only pertains to your C&R collection.

You don't have to log any acquisitions of C&R firearms prior to getting your license, but you do have to log any disposals of same while you have the license. You don't have to log non-C&R firearms in there at all.

You can only use the license for C&R firearms.

I had mine for 2 renewals. Only gave it up because times were hard, hadn't bought any C&R or used the discount for 4 years, so the 30 bucks was a expense not a savings.
Had a lot of fun though. Got a nice Polish M44 and Swiss K31, couple of Enfields, big box full of cheap Turk mausers (only have one left), bunch of ammo for cheap and I don't even have guns for all of it. Got some good discounts from Lee reloading and Midway and Grafs.
There are rules and laws, you have to be careful. Get your C&R in 2010, then sell that M70 you bought 20 years ago, oops it was made in 1959, it was C&R, you had to log it and the buyers name address and DL number. Hope you did that, right?

Hmmm.... tell us more about discounts from Lee, please. I've never seen them on any of the lists and their site is silent on the matter...

Uhh, well, it was 9 or 10 years ago so I don't remember exactly. But they give (gave?) dealer discounts to all FFLs just like Grafs. They didn't care about 01 or 03.
Call and ask about FFL discount, I guess.

Try here for starters.
https://factorysales.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; When things got tight, and prices rose, the Lee Factory Sales Store was a treasure. They had stuff when no one else did, and it was still economical, not overly inflated.

Yeah, I've noticed that site - very good prices (though I'm not sure if they're really Lee's factory sales or a third party). Looking online, there seem to be a lot of complaints about them taking forever to ship stuff, charging card prematurely, etc. Though that was all from 2009 - got any more recent experience?
Back on topic, the 03 C&R was the best $30 I ever spent!

Pick up a Shotgun News. There's a lot of dealers with ads for C&R guns. Coolest thing I did with mine was buy a Tokarev pistol through the mail. I bought a Yugo SKS too. I'm thinking of getting a SW-76 sub-machine gun (which is C&R). You still have to have the Sheriff sign off on your (Federal) Form 4, but you can get the gun from a dealer in another state and you don't have to do the "yellow" form.
