I have been a permit holder for awhile. It is my understanding that the law has changed a bit regarding being pulled over and needing to inform the leo. Is this true? What if I am a passenger? If I am carrying as a passenger, do I need to say anything? I find the Texas state website a bit difficult to navigate to find this type info. TIA. wg

If you're the passenger, just sit there and keep your mouth shut. No need to say or show anything to the cop as you're not the one who was pulled over.

As for showing your CHL if YOU are pulled over, technically you are still supposed to do it, but there is no longer any penalty if you don't.

the law is simple, if a peace officer asks for your ID, you must show him/her both your License or state issued ID as well as your CHL.
While there is no penalty under the law for not doing so, you could look bad in the officer's eyes, and he may give you more attention that you may want to have.

Yep. I'd just hate to have my passenger volunteering info, ID, etc. to a cop. Everyone else in the car needs to keep quiet unless directly addressed by the LEO.

I also don't think we are required to show our CHL to the officer if we are not carrying. However, there's really no reason not to since he will find out about your CHL if he runs your DL. If that happens he might come back to you a little on edge and upset that you didn't show it to him. He can cause you some grief now and might even ticket you if he doesn't understand that you don't have to show it to him if you're not carrying.

If you are a noncarrying passenger you dont need any id at all. LEO have started asking passengers for ID during traffic stops which annoys the heck out of me. They asked me once as a passenger and I told them i didnt have id (i didnt) and wasnt driving anyway. DPS told me they are running passengers for warrants. Let him be on edge and upset, you havent done anything wrong.
