Does anyone know if the Big D NYE (Downtown Dallas New Year's Eve) event is considered a non-carry event? they have on their site the following under the "rules" section (http://www.bigdnye.com/rules/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;):

ITEMS PROHIBITED
Weapons of any kind

The event is held in the square outside the American Airlines Center and throughout the streets around the AAC - otherwise a public area and certainly not posted.

SECURITY AND SAFETY
We are making every effort to create a safe and secure environment within the Big D NYE venue area.
On-site security will be provided by the Dallas Police Department.

Any thoughts? What am I missing?

That's Dallas, a city subject to the Preemption law under the Local Government code.

Sounds like Texas State Fair leased to a private organization trying to make rules on Dallas city property ... all over again.

I carried and talked to the city Police who blocked off streets and provided security at the Christmas festival Burnet has.

But ... that's Dallas.

I'm guessing a lot of alcohol will be served for "on premise" consumption, but what percent of income that brings overall and whose license it is, and whether there would be 51% signs ... who knows? ....

You're not missing anything.

1. Weapons (by law abiding citizens) are not allowed which means to criminals
"Victims here and can't fight back....easy pickin's"

2. They don't really want you there.

3. I wouldn't go if they sent a horse-drawn carriage.

I'm past the point of endlessly debating whether this person or that company or this entity can or cannot ban weapons.

If they say "no weapons" then I take my money and go elsewhere. And I let them know it.
I've given up telling them about how good we CHL holders are or how we just want to be left alone.

THEY just want to be left alone - well, I can do that and my money will not keep them company either.

Unless they're frisking everybody at the entrances...who cares what they want? Just carry. I might even bring a detachable telephoto lens...I'm a real rebel.

Lens fell out of my eyeglasses last week, but a little superglue and screw tightening fixed it ... I'd hate to be arrested

I would carry. Being that it is a public location it probably cannot be posted with an enforceable 30.06 anyway. If they have metal detectors I would ask for an LEO before being detected and explain to the officer the situation. If they let you on in, great! If not, you may briefly argue the point, but I would not push the issue and be prepared to walk back to my truck to either leave or secure my gun inside before returning to the party.

BTW, how do they restrict entrance into an event like that? That place is so wide open.

Keep an eye out for 51% signs... they're still enforceable, like at the NIOSA event.
