I have two rifles owned by my Grandfather. I do not know much about rifles but have looked into these a little. Any help and advice on these would be appreciated. Calibers 243 Featherweight and a 300 H & H Mag. Both used as saddle guns but in great shape for being nearly 50 years old. Sorry, I wish I knew more. They both have the original metal butt plate and no recoil padding. The 300 has a longer barrell, approximately 47" in overall gun length.

Here is a link to determine year of manufacture pre '64 Mod 70's by S/N. Post '64 S/N start at 700,000. Blue Book of guns will give you value based on condition.

CBN Outdoors was a name I came up with to deal with all my personal outdoor activities and I have just kept it for years. There is no business relationship etc. I differentiate its use by a checking account etc. so I track and have access to my records of things I might purchase for value and historical basis. Nothing to do with any business. CBN just happen to be my initials!

I was wondering myself about your forum moniker. Good luck with the Model 70's, I am green. I tried to talk a guy into selling me his Dad's heavy barrel pre 64 .243 back in the late sixties and he almost said yes until his wife intervened. Stuck with my first year production post '64 which was very accurate with handloads after I glass bedded the action. I left the barrel free floating. Worked on the trigger as well. It now resides with my SIL who recently got interested in shooting.
