So, tonight on CBS News, Katie Couric was interviewing the Arizona Sheriff about the shooting there. She asked him about open and concealed carry and if he thought it was a good idea.. He said "No. Why don't we just start putting Uzi's in babies cribs".

This really gives me a bad feeling. I hold out hope that having Republicans in control right now is going to help but I can see some crazy federal law being passed to make it more difficult to purchase a hand gun.

People always take these things and run with them. An isolated incident that makes national news is a good place for some Congressman or woman to make a name for themselves and show out for their constituents. Why we try to punish the masses for the crimes of the few I will never know.

As long as the victims are willing and able to make remarkably brave and patriotic statements such as this, I believe Liberty will prevail:
"This shouldn't happen in this country or anywhere else, but in a free society, we're going to be subject to people like this. So I prefer this to the alternative."

- John Green, father of Christina Green, the 9-year-old girl murdered in the Tucson tragedy on Saturday.

That sherrif is a complete knuckle-head. Obviously not much floating around in his head for him to make such asinine comments. How in the heck does CHL/open carry translate to guns in baby cribs??? Does this so called sherrif even carry a firearm? Or does he follow the approach of sweet talking the offender out of criminal ways? Better, yet, just regulate everyone so that they cannot leave their homes without government escorts. That's the way to eliminate crime.

The tragic events in Arizona need to stand by themselves as a deranged act by a deranged man. Politicizing this is the lowest form scum in my opinion.

Sheriff is a big Lib/Anti. He's all over the news scoring political points while 6 murders go uninvestigated in his county. Maybe if shooter was an illegal alien he would have had an excuse. Check out his record. :banghead:

This whole thing makes my heart hurt...for the 9 year old girl murdered. I have a 9 year old girl!! For the other people murdered... For the Congresswoman, horribly injured. It's just sick. My personal belief is that the killer should be put to death.

I was a teenager riding home from school when I heard about the Reagan shooting by John Hinckley...and crippled James Brady for life. I understand the Brady gun control types, but vehemently disagree.

So Hinckley gets aquitted by reason of insanity... You all remember that? I do. He's (conditionally) out now...

Remember Tucson is Arizona's Round Rock/Austin/San Antonio ideology.

City of Tucson had it illegal to carry in city parks, and recent court case is compelling them to re-write ordinances to comply with State law to ALLOW carry in city parks as mandated my STATE law ... this was to occur this week or so... Tucson Sheriff and Mayor (Bill White clone?) are probably trying to get as much of their opinion on air time as possible.

This Pima County sheriff was all over the news proclaiming Arizona's immigration law racist when it passed. Maybe both issues are part of his "Don't protect anything" platform.

Has anyone asked Sheriff Joe's opinion on this? I'd love to hear it.

I am wary of any sheriff/police chief who condemns CC. Maybe it's the fact that our previous sheriff (in Cameron County) was indicted and sent to prison for protecting drug cartels, and another officer the same thing in the next county over.

I think there's something else going on with them when I hear statements like that.
