The Brady Bunch is going to love this!
SALT LAKE CITY -- State lawmakers are debating whether to designate a semiautomatic pistol as the official gun of Utah, despite protests from people who believe it's inappropriate because of recent mass shootings.
The bill to make the Browning M1911 the official gun breezed through a committee hearing this week and is scheduled to be debated by the full House as early as Wednesday.

Well, since John M. Browning was born and raised in Utah it makes perfect sense to me.

True. But demonizing guns by the public is too easy to do. Perhaps tying handguns to the mainstream "consciousness" would gradually work to gain more acceptance.

The same as the need for a state flower and tree.

I do think designating a federal or state object/day/week/month/zodiac sign/whathaveyou has spun way out of control, and in general should be dropped from legislative calenders, but as long as it is going to happen, then there ought to be an official "State Gun."
Which of course begs the question: What should be the official Texas State Gun/Rifle/Revolver/Pistol/Plinker/Home Defense Gun/Crew-served Weapon System/ad nauseum?
Howzabout the official State Knife? A Bowie?
Time for new thread, I think.

Clearly a Bowie knife for the official knife of Texas. I'm not sure about the official gun, however.

I find it ironic that Bowie knives are illegal to carry in Texas.

We also need an official Gun !
Hopefully the Texas gun will allow me to install, wooden grips w/the Texas flower on it ! I will have Mr. Cotton, tool me a real nice Texas leather holster, with matching design. BUT ... it would be a bummer, to cover it up !
I can see it now ... "real pruity" ... not just a Sunday BBQ rig ... but an everyday carry .. WOW !!
(( No little .380s ... please !

!

If they are going to go that far, why not pick something modern like the Glock....

If Texas goes with a plastic gun ... can I ... use a Sharpie/felt marker... to draw the Texas flower, on the handgrips ??... just sayin' !
