"Homeowner Shoots and Kills Intruder
LAST UPDATE: 10/31/2006 4:21:39 PM
Posted By: Vickie Jean Summers
Investigators want to know why a man who was shot and killed was in a family’s home.
It's the first deadly shooting in Gillespie county in ten years. Deputies say it appears 30-year-old Dan Speight broke into the homeowners garage. That homeowner woke up, walked up to Speight and asked what he was doing.
The homeowner told deputies Speight didn't answer, but ran towards him. Investigators say the homeowner shot Speight twice.
Dan Speight did have a criminal history in Gillespie County. He’d been arrested and convicted for burglary.

Humm, because I am such a seasoned and skilled investigaator I think I can answer the Police's question; "why was the man in a family's home?"

Just goes to show you that just because "nothing bad ever happens around here" that doesn't mean nothing bad will NEVER happen around here.

Sounds like a good shoot to me. I am interested in what time that took place and what kind of firearm was used.
I supposed the investigator was to worried about why the theif was there instead of giving the usual Brady speil

Unless the homeowner works nights, it was probably ... at night. Not that it matters to the righteousness of the home defense.
It's probably just as well the TV station didn't report the weapon used. It would have been an "automatic assault rifle," "sawed-off shotgun," or something like that.

Um... this has got to be one of the weirdest jobs of reporting that I've ever run across.
Here's the simplified version of this story as I glean it from this weird report:
A homeowner woke up and found a burglar in his garage. When the homeowner asked what the burglar was doing, the burglar attempted to assault the homeowner. The homeowner shot & killed the burglar.
We can refer to Mr. Speight as "a burglar" since he has a history of burglary (including convictions for the same).
Looks to me like this critter simply picked the wrong target. The rest of the story is just noise...

Your right. What was I thinking. Way to much to ask a reporter to report the facts. Gotta love those journalists with integrity
I was just kinda thinking with my fingers, knowing full well I'll never get the straight scoop. But it did surprise me they didnt add the proverbial "30 year old victum" spew.
