The sign out front reads 'House of Hospitality'. Ball said that is exactly what it is.

"I can assure you that if you are a homeless man, you can come here and get hot food to eat and some fresh clothes to wear...a hot shower," Ball said.

In addition to the guns, police also confiscated 874 boxes of various ammunition from the man's apartment.

Fox 8 News is not identifying the clergyman because he was not arrested or charged with any crime.

"I think he just tries to take care of everybody and everything and all. Oh, he's a wonderful father.

An officer determined that at this time, it is best he shalt not have guns.

NRA to the rescue! Unless he is mentally unstable and the guns will be sold, or be put under a custodian care.

Not sure what prompted it, obviously all facts aren't there.

Something about a "crisis intervention" ?

Cleveland police said officers came in contact with the man, which prompted a crisis intervention at the man's apartment across from the monastery.

May be interesting as facts come out.

Update: Make that 80 guns, not 57. And add in 874 boxes of ammunition. The priest, now identified as Abbot John Henry, went to the hospital voluntarily and police continue their investigation, which may include other properties owned by Henry.

Souces say the Abbot willingly let lawmen in without a warrant and agreed to be taken to a nearby hospital for observation and treatment.

The investigation began with a police undercover agent checking the traffic of guns.

Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman confirmed some of the guns, "dozens" he said, were high-powered weapons, including AK-47's.

For some, that's just a start!

I know if a CIT was called in, the gentleman was most likely dealing with some form of mental crisis. Teams like that are often called in for suicidal/depressed subjects, MHMR patients, or the undiagnosed mentally ill. I have no first hand knowledge of the situation, but I do know that it is industry practice to take weapons into protective custody for safekeeping pending the outcome of a professional evaluation. It reads like the gentleman voluntarily sought help - which is what LE tried to steer the subject towards in a case like I described above.

Most importantly, I have no first hand knowledge of the specific situation discussed, however, I have and do deal with similar situations with a high degree of regularity. That is how things work - it ain't pretty, and it ain't great. Care and treatment for those with minor to mild mental illness (personality disorders, illnesses, etc) is sparse. The programs were butchered during budget cuts in the past, and will most likely continue to be cut as we scrape for funds to run our governments. I had no idea things were as bleak as they were until I entered this field. Often times the subject is willing for the local PD to secure his/her weapons until they are treated. Many of these people want help and do not like feeling like the are in "crisis."

Excellent points. I was going to say the same thing. From my perspective of the story, it seemed like the Crisis Intervention was for his own safety if he had expressed any suicidal ideation (thinking about it, coming up with a plan, versus acting on it), then that's probably why the CIT was involved.

I used to work in psych hospitals all around Houston for 5 years.

if this was a case of mental eval, it's a shame that all the info on the guys guns and ammunition was released to the media. That served no useful purpose.
