Ran across this video while searching for something else completely unrelated, but after seeing this, I can't remember what it was I was looking for to begin with.

THAT is very cool. Thanks for posting. As a long-time Glock guy, that video is enlightening as well as a bit intimidating. :eek6

That's not a "field strip", right? :confused5

Seen it before, but still a very cool video.

If I'm just doing a routine cleaning, I'll stop after getting the slide off. Every other range trip or so, I'll go ahead and pull out the firing pin to clean it and check the spring. Thats about as far down as I've taken mine.

Anyone go further when they clean?

I did nothing but field strip and clean my Kimber Ultra CDP II for the first year and a half.
I had seen a gun shop owner, my previous employer, detail strip it when he swapped triggers for me. My reaction to all the little parts was "I'm glad I didn't try to do that myself."
But I eventually got curious. I studied instructions and videos on detail stripping a 1911. I sought out information on gun forums to learn the differences in detail stripping a Kimber. (The ambi safety, in particular, is not common on other 1911s.) Then I stripped it down to individual pins and springs until I had a bowl full of parts that used to be a pistol. And I put it back together. Fascinated by the jigsaw puzzle, I probably detail stripped it and reassembled it at least 100 times that week, lol. I got where I could do it in just a few minutes. During that time, I gave it the most thorough cleaning it had ever had.

Send em to me, because if I ever take mine all the way apart like that, I'm bound to lose some pieces. Your leftovers would make nice spares. :willynilly:

That's a really cool animation. I forgot what the OP was searching for initially too, but it's ok. Thanks for sharing!
