POLL: Citizen Militia

Shouldn't it be the responsibility of all citizens to be prepared to help defend their country? Or should we depend solely on a volunteer military and hope no one else comes knocking on our doors while the army is away?

...when the US was born, having the army come to call was the REASON that 2A was so important...the army that they had known came when they wished, took what they wanted, did as they pleased, and left...the colonists wanted to make sure that it never happened again...we want the government (especially military)completely OUT of our self-defense plans...

The key word is "require". I can count on one hand all the things I think our government should have the ability to require of us...
Permit would make this a totally different debate.
The Government works for US!

Only a small percentage of households have guns. How can there be an effective deterrent if just a small group can mount a defense? I'm playing devil's advocate here since so many stand on the 2nd amendment. I am just suggesting we take the 2nd amendment to it's extreme and arm every home as a deterrent to other countries who would invade us, declared or otherwise.
On the other hand, we could disarm everyone, go to Church, pray, and see how that works. Who do you trust? The Church, government, only yourself and your family? What kind of nation do you want and will that nation continue to survive under your scenario? Good and evil, man the animal and man the image of GOD, they exist.

If I'm not mistaken, originally the role of the Federal Government was only to regulate inter-state commerce and to defend against foriegn attack.
They have taken on a few extra roles since them days!

I believe that it is paramount to a free society that everyone
at least knows how to operate/shoot a firearm but not to own one necessarily. I think there are plenty of firearms to go around, in Texas anyway.
Government- no
Church- no
Private ownership is the only way to go.

I'm not voting here. While it makes sense for many to be armed if you really think about it (and not that hard) there are many many many people that should not have guns - or pointy objects.
Some people have no common sense.
Some people are too clumsy or have no mechanical sense.
Some people would only hurt themselves or others.
Some will never be adult enough.
Some could never handle them safely.
So, the answer to your question if it is "should EVERY family" would HAVE to be no.

If the Govt provides it, they can take it away.

That is why I made this a simple yes/no poll. I hate maybes! Sounds like physics. Maybe the particle of light passes through the pane of glass, maybe it reflects.

I voted that not all families should have guns, there are some people that don't have sence enough to know what end the bullet comes out of.

I think it's a lot like voting. In a perfect world, every adult should vote. However, in the real world, if you really think about it, there are some people who shouldn't vote. Some people have no common sense. Some people are too clumsy or have no mechanical sense and could make a mistake casting their ballot, even without butterflies. Some people would only hurt themselves or others by voting for their candidate. Some will never be adult enough. Some could never handle the responsibility.

Plenty of food for thought and words of wisdom in this response. One needs look no further than....er, uh...around.

I think the wording makes no sense, as it doesn't take much to look around and discern that there's a lot of people you don't EVER want to muster with you.
If it comes down to a need for states to call for militia, there are many of us that can answer the call, but I can stand at the end my driveway and point to several houses that have able-bodied males that would be a danger to themselves and others should they come within 10 feet of a firearm.
