Let me know what you think. Stopped by the local Tandy store in Austin today and picked up a few items. Still have to get the belt loops installed. Holster is damp still and has not been dyed...

Well as the piece is still damp it should shrink up nice and snug when it fully dries.

I bought an overstitcher to mark my holes but I am using a tiny drill bit to open them up before I use leather needles to stitch. I guess I need to get a stitching awl and put in the elbow grease :)

Thanks for the input. I bought enough scrap that I can do atleast one more. Crappy part is if anyone wanted to buy one they'd have to be from the Austin area and loan me their weapon so I can mold the leather to it.

Edit... Also Hobby Lobby had the perfect snaps. They say the following around them :)

I agree with Andy. That's a darn nice first effort. I've never made a holster, but I assume you learn a few tricks with each try, just like cutting the leather away from the gun to allow for a clean grab as Andy pointed out.

UT, you may be looking at this in the wrong light. If you want to make and sell holsters, that looks like to me a wonderful excuse to purchase all the different guns to use for making holsters... You would need to have quite a collection to craft all the different holsters!

Just a different way to look at things...

My wife and I decided last night that it just wasn't feasible to find a small pocket .380 for me to carry that she would be comfortable shooting so I think she will be getting a J frame or similar revolver :) So I guess that gives me 2 more to the collection.

Adam that holster you show you would be fairly simple to craft although it isn't IWB.

I can now see why holsters cost so much to make.. It isn't the hardest thing in the world to do especially with the proper tools, however it sure is time consuming!

The holster is getting better and better looking as time goes on and it dries out. Once it is completely dry and you are wearing it I do not believe the gun would fall out even if you were upside down. It is molded so tightly to all the nooks and grooves of the gun is almost snaps into place :)
