I own a Sig P239 .357 Sig and a Sig P226 9mm. My EDC is the P239. I have a CompTac MTAC holster for the P239 (right hand carry) and like it a lot. I haven't decided yet if I want to buy a whole nother holster or just the replaceable kydex shell for carrying the P226. (I'm leaning toward the former.) I've been carrying an extra magazine in my pocket but would prefer a holster of some kind. Also, if the law is passed this session, I will be able to carry at work. My dress is slacks and a casual dress shirt (button down collar and shirt - both long and short sleeve.) I'm searching for some solution for carrying extra magazines. The gun holster is tuckable and hides quite well, so I thought that might be the solution for a magazine holster. So I ordered an IWB Strike from Don Hume, which is a dual magazine holster. (I want to carry two mags because the P239 is single stack, 7 rounds.) I've been wearing it for the past few days, and I have to confess, it's not very comfortable. I'm still searching for the best position to wear it in. Some are more comfortable than others. Tonight I wore it in about the 7 o-clock position and it wasn't too bad but still quite noticeable.

What I'm wondering is whether there is some other method of carrying a couple of spare magazines that makes sense for my situation and dress, is easily concealed and more comfortable than the IWB carrier. I've tried the Kangeroo Karry shoulder holster and did not like it at all. I'm 5'10" and 275 pounds, and the Kangeroo Karry folds over when I sit down, bunches up and becomes very uncomfortable. I have a bellyband, but it only holds one magazine. (I suppose I could alter it to carry two.) It's not bad, and I could wear that to work, but it makes access much more difficult. I know Crossbreed has a tuckable two mag holster, but it's twice the price of the Don Hume. Is the difference in comfort worth the extra dollars? What other options are out there? What do you guys that work in offices do for magazine holders?

I own some of each design (just ordered 2 kydex bodies for the mtac using the promo code for 14% off). Crossbreed has a tuckable mag carrier on a leather body similar to their supertuck holster.

For "open carry" of spare mags, try Ripoffs brand nylon pouches. I have this one http://www.ripoffs.com/datasheets/co157/co157.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and it will hold every double-stack mag I own - Glock 9/40, M&P 9, and M&P 45 - completely concealing the mag, but still very drawable after you "rip off" (actually rip open) the velcro top flap.

I had a problem with the very strong and very large steel belt clips scuffing up my nicer leather belts - but just recently found the solution - 3/4-inch heat shrink tubing (couple bucks at Ace Hardware, Home Depot etc) over the metal clip, heat it up to shrink it down, now the metal clip is protected by a rubber layer so it won't scratch the leather any more.

These Ripoffs holsters are made for cell phones, etc. so you'll have to check the interior dimension and find one that fits you particular mag (the 157 should fit your 226 mags, might be too loose for 239 mags - but perhaps two of them will fit into one pouch?)

also the model 46 or 35 (can't remember) does a great job with .38/.357 speed strips, Ruger LCP mags (two fit side by side), and short double-stack mags like baby Glock, compact M&P etc.

GT Distributors in Austin keeps some Ripoffs pouches in stock - I assume the Dallas store will too.

EDIT to add: I use a Ripoffs pouch for every gun I carry but also keep my iPhone in one, so I always have two on my left side. I only been asked once "why two cell phone pouches" and I just said it was for a Leatherman or something like that.

Hmmm...that would have to go in a front pocket. A back pocket would be incredibly irritating when you sit down. Do let me know what you think when you get it.

The Crossbreed looks like it would be more comfortable, because the mags are separated by some distance. So instead of having one solid hard mass, you have a flexible carrier that should mold to the body. I'm just not sure I'm ready to spend $70 to find out if it really is comfortable.

That one does look neat, I have been toying with the idea of picking up a small camera case to hold extra mags for a similar reason as yours, but I like this little one also.

I actually started with camera cases to carry Ruger LCP and Walther PPS spare mags - Lowepro and Tamrac brands are well made (used to use those for actual photographer work), but it's hard to find the right size, especially for larger/longer mags. I have since found Ripoffs pouches for both sets of small, short mags also. They're just built a bit more ruggedly and come in more sizes for a better fit. And the huge metal belt clip does a great job of supporting the weight of fully-loaded mags. The only issue I had was the damage they caused to nice leather belts, but the heat-shrink tubing solution - so far - seems to be working.
