How is a semiauto UZI better than a semiauto handgun in 9mm?

A friend of mine purchased a semiauto UZI 9mm carbine. He now thinks he is special. Granted, I would love to have the full auto version but how is a semiauto UZI better than say a semi-auto glock with a 33rd magazine?
You can't easily conceal the UZI for one thing and large mags can still be purchased for some handguns.

It's not "better".
But sometimes you have a few extra bucks and want a new toy.
I've been thinking Serbu Super Shorty lately.

It reminds me of the time I went to the shooting range and there were these "gentlemen" (their appearance caused the hair on the back of my neck to stand up I was afraid that they were in posession of firearms

)with all sorts of semi-auto tacticool skorpian uzi type guns shooting sideways and posing a lot for their girlfriends who by the way were way to attractive to be with them IMHO. Their guns would jam about every other shot.
I just kept shaking my head and asking myself "Why?" to the whole thing. Why do they have these junk guns? Why were these super attractive girls with these gangsta wannabe posers? ( I am married with 2 kids so I doesnt really matter to me, but somethings just beg the question)
After all I guess tacticool is cool and fun as long as you are aware of the difference between tacticool and practicle.

It has a stock and a longer barrel so it could have more practical accuracy than a handgun. People pay good money for AR rifles in 9mm so this is similar. If he bought it to enjoy and he enjoys it more, that makes it better.

There is no way I can justify buying a Colt AR. I wanted it.
There is no way I can justify buying a TA01 & RM04 to put on it. I wanted them.
If it makes ya happy and you can afford it, why not?

A full UZI seems like a very nice gun, the Military channel ranks them as number 10 for a close combat weapon. They show the Secret Service pulling one out after Regan was shot. This is what I would want after I got a few of the guns that ranked higher.
A mini UZI is a different matter. Isn't this the gun that killed the little boy up North at the "shoot a machine gun" event. I think the appeal is they were the weapon of choice for the movies in the '80's, when a drug deal gone bad shoot out was needed.
I'd much rather have a ported Glock 17.

A "crippled" SMG is just another clumsy oversize pistol. A fully functional SMG is only a pistol on steroids. A REAL assault rifle is a wonderful weapon but - - - a belt fed MG is an awesome weapon to be feared by those on the receiving end. That said, if someone thinks an Uzi carbine is superior to a handgun more power to them.

I don't think that the gun the OP referred to a "real UZI" like the Secret Service has. The ad stated new American-made receivers and Israeli IMI parts.

His name isn't "Joe," is it? I have a friend named Joe who was asking me what I thought about these things just a couple of days ago. I told him to buy what he wants, but if it were my money, I'd spend it elsewhere. A neutered SMG is a waste of money as far as I'm concerned... ...but that's just me. I'm sure that other people would see some of my gun choices as a waste of time too.

We can also wait for the day we can legally convert them again. It will happen, it will.....maybe....

I'm going to have to disagree here. I think, just like a "neutered" semi auto assault rifle has a valuable place in a civilian arsenal, so does a semi auto SMG.
Advantages a semiauto UZI has over a pistol in a fight:
1) capacity
2)less recoil
3)more stable shooting platform with a stock than a handheld pistol
4) more velocity if it keeps its long barrel than an equivalent pistol*
*edit: this doesn't seem to be true. see graph on later post.
only disadvantage is fairly obvious
1)dang near impossible to conceal or carry easily
So in conclusion, I think a semi auto UZI would make an outstanding home defense or trunk gun.
To those who consider it worthless without the happy switch, are AR-15s and semi auto AKs equally worthless?
The ability to deliver well aimed, rapid semi auto fire pretty much negates the lack of a happy switch in almost any situation one of us would find ourselves in, I would think.
Aaanndd, theres my .02

and I was typing as fast as I could but Novaman beat me to it... thanx for being the voice of awesomeness!
Gosh ya'll are some UZI haters are ya? The longer sight radius=better accuracy, the fixed or folding stock is another point of contact/stability=more accuracy, the longer barrel of a semi Uzi= more accuracy. I love me some UZI and recently posted it would be my next rifle after I acquire a 9mm AR. TONS of fun to shoot, cheap to feed, and rugged as an AK. What is not to like other than the looks really?
