... and it's NOT what you may think ...

it's an Italian-made repeating AIR RIFLE used by Lewis & Clark during their nation-expanding expedition into the West that was capable of firing FORTY .46-caliber lead balls before a reload/reprime of the air system.
Basically, it was the world's first "assault rifle" and Lewis & Clark used to it scare and intimidate Indian tribes into leaving their small group alone.
Fascinating history lesson ....

I completely disagree. Another forum member posted this and I believe this weapon here is the most important piece of American history. We take these out on the field and support our boys, our enemies with be terrified and more than likely surrender.

The M1 rifle (Garand) hands down. The greatest rifle used by the greatest generation to crush the greatest Axis of evil of the 20th Century.

Nope, I think it was the 'Official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle' that got me and many others (including Ralphie) started on the road to safe gun handling and ownership.

i'll second that, as would Patton
my sister and i got my dad a Springfield M1 Garand for Christmas and we absolutely love shooting that thing, of all the guns i've shot it's hands down my favorite. of course i'm a history nerd so i'd rather shoot an old/historic gun over a newer AR any day.
