I received this article today from a Homeland Security Newsletter.

http://homelandsecuritynewswire.com/bil ... s-congress" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't know what effect it would have, but it would fun to see the look on the receptionists' face when the officer asked for the receipt.

Another bill would allow local law enforcement to arrest, without a warrant, people they believe to be in the country illegally and turn them over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement
THAT is a frightening power that the police/government do not need. No papers? You're under arrest. Wow....

This bill doesn't have a snowball's chance of passing. I've wanted to see the results of our Federal representatives decisions brought back to them personally for years. If the union members can picket Speaker Boehner's personal home, why not pile up a few illegal aliens on Rep. Jackson-Lee's doorstep?

We know that logic is not ever going to succeed with radical open border types. It may take some ridiculous bill like this to move the dicussion back to the center where some compromise would be possible.

If you are in the country illegally then you shouldn't be afforded all the same rights as citizens should you?

No, you shouldn't. But let's think for just a second about this...can you PROVE your citizenship on the spot? Most of us couldn't. Despite what we think.

Don't ask how I know.

That's where discretion comes into play.

LEO's develop skills and abilities through experience that, sadly, many citizens choose to ignore. Abuse of discretion is usually proved in a court of law.

I support giving LEO's greater discretion in this particular issue, as I believe the benefit is worth the price of the inevitable errors in judgment.

From where I sit, police officer discretion, doesn't lead to justice, or constitutional rights. Those of us that have lived in a "papers please" nation, didn't like it. A close example of what life is like can be found in Mexico. Despite all the police and police powers, the bad guys still run the place.
police don't need more discression, they need mine fields. and courts that will send criminal aliens to prison and back where they came from. If we actually punish those that hired illegal aliens, and refuse public services such as schools and medical care. We could stop the problem. Ignoring citizens rights usually results in something invasive like the TSA gropings.

1st, this is the third list im on, that someone has gotten up in arms about this bill, and the third time, I've realized many did not read or understand the bill.
Often folks miss this part of the bill " the proposed bill only applies to illegal immigrants about to be released on bail or discharged after completing a sentence "

So for those posters above that fear some sort of police abuse.... read the bill... it's very limited in it's scope to begin with...and specific on the demographic being targeted.

Sure I can, as can every single adult I know and interact with daily.....
Someplace near a border state having been pulled over for a busted tail light...."Mr MARQUEZ, thats a Hispanic Sur Name is it not? Are you in this country legally?" Yes Sir, would you like to see my Drivers license? My Concealed Hand Gun License? My Military ID? My State ID? or if you give me a second, My Pass Port is in the car."

Gee that was easy.

BUT.. since that event described above has NOTHING to do with this bill in question it would go more like.
"Mr Marquez you have been released from Prison, having completed your sentence for XXX.. Have you obtained legal status to be in the US since your arrest?...... " No" ... > "Please step on to the bus, we have a long ride to Congressman Raul Grijalva's house"

As I understand it, "Rights" are not reserved to citizens only. You may be thinking of privileges, benefits, entitlements and the like.

The problem I see, how LEO deals with Spanish or Latin (Portuguese) speaking people when they do not know the language?
The problem how to deal 1.6 million non-legal immigrant living in Texas alone is really really huge problem.

Dropping off an illegal at a Congressman's office is the wrong department. Congress makes the laws the Executive enforces them.
They are already illegal Congress can't make them more illegal. I can't remember a single president who has taken the problem seriously.

See , read, understand the 14th amendment for the answer (SCOTUS says yes most times) IF we allow an illegal alien to be a resident in the upon (ie not incarcerated being processed for deportation or otherwise) then SCOUTS has often decided if you’re a resident, the US constitution applies..most always referring to the 14th amendment.

It is the right persons and place when you have congressmen like this.
Congressman Raul Grijalva, a Democrat who represents Tucson, has announced a boycott of his own state because he opposes Arizona's new immigration bill.
Congressman Raul Grijalva Voted NO on reporting illegal aliens who receive hospital treatment.
Congressman Raul Grijalva signed the American Dream Act which Amends the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to repeal the denial of an unlawful alien's eligibility for higher education benefits based on state residence unless a US national is similarly eligible without regard to such state residence.

Gonna have to agree with this. As much as we need to do a LOT about illegal immigration, this isn't a direction we need to step in.
