One year ago today, on February 22, 2010, the National Park Service lifted the ban on carrying concealed weapons in the parks for those who have permits to do so.
...
At the time, critics predicted that the new rule would frighten families away from the parks, and that the number of animals shot by gun owners in the parks would increase exponentially.

So what actually happened?

Not much at all, noted David Barna, spokesperson for the National Park Service, in an email. There was “really almost no impact,” he wrote.
Of course not.. doesn't stop them from pulling out the 'blood in the streets' ('blood on the trails' in this case?) canard.

Interestingly enough, the only incident that was probably CHL related was a legitimate self defense against the grizzly. I will bet the boys target practicing didn't have a CHL, since the term 'boys' was used, and wouldn't have mattered since they were using a rifle.

So, the only thing that allowing CHL's into parks has done is saved some lives. :thumbs2:

This is one of my favorite new laws.

I drive to southwestern Montana at least two times a year. The shortest route takes me through both the Teton National Park and Yellowstone. I've been bypassing them by going through a very steep pass west of Jackson and driving through Idaho just to get to HWY 287...adds several miles and about on hour.

Now its a non-event; just cruise through the parks...also much more eye pleasing drive.
