Unbelievable, but maybe not considering it is IL.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois attorney general says state police must release the name of everyone in the state who is authorized to own a gun.

information should be public.
The Associated Press had requested the list of FOID cardholders but state police said that would violate the privacy of gun owners. The attorney general's office ruled that argument invalid.
Burglars who steal guns will support this bill and watch those houses for when people are gone. :smilelol5:
Home invaders will know which homes to avoid and support this bill too "rlol"

They need new Atty General, they'll get sued in Federal Court on Privacy.
I bet they just send it to Wikileaks and post a link on criminals-R-us . com

Some pretty good comments after the article. I like this one;

The same attorney would argue that you can't release the names of people who are arrested for having unlicensed guns because it would violate their rights. So you're better off not registering your gun in Illinois because at least then the law gives you some respect.

Chicago wants firearm ownership to be public info. Chicago is not Illinois and Illinois is not Chicago. Unfortunately, like California, Illinois is governed by its liberal big city majority not the stable and good folk of the heartland.

I got my Illinois FOID card in 1968 or '69. Chicago has been working on gun registration for the entire state a pretty long while. Do y'all know that neither Illinois nor its northern sister state, Wisconsin, allow concealed carry for their law abiding citizens?

And this is why we call registration the first step to confiscation. Heck, you don't even have to use the cops or military! Just release the lists and let the criminals disarm the populace for you....

disgusting.

His decision will almost certain come back to bite him in the behind. In a state like Illinois, where gun control is in effect, the people who legally own guns tend to be the elite of society. In Chicago, some people are given the title of Police Special Investigator so they can carry legally. You can bet your bottom dollar that Joe the local barkeep isn't going to get one of those badges, but attorneys who hobnob with the police and friends of Mayor Daley will almost certainly get them.

So, when the list is released (if it ever is), the jig will be up and the public will see clearly the do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I-do "ethics" of their leaders. Of course, it's almost a certainty that there will be political intervention before that list ever gets out, because in Illinois, nothing that the pols don't want known gets publicized deliberately. Al Capone didn't die. He got "elected" to office in Illinois.

If it gets released, I am betting that the elites write themselves an exemption.

They were poised to start work on this bill before the wheels fell off the wagon on the budget. Who knows when or if they will take it up again this year. The Legislature is pretty pro-gun so it is still possible.

I think Satan will have a big ol' icicle hanging off of his nose before we ever see a "shall issue" law in IL. I sure would like to be wrong on this.

They, the cheesehead legislators, could turn a Wisconsin CHL into the cash cow that the Texas legislators have. :txflag:

I wonder how far back those names may be released. I had my Ill FOID in '82, but left the state in '85. I still have the card. Looks like I may have to do some digging on the 'ole web.... :coolgleamA:

I first heard about this only this morning. Firstly, not that it makes a difference, but I think the AG is a woman.

I had several thoughts about this whole thing. I wondered why this list exists at all. I figured it mostly had to do with Chicago politicians. I also wondered if anyone has ever challenged the existence of the FOID card requirement. It sure sounds like an infringement to me.

After a while I started to wonder if this is a ploy to get this out in the open so it could be challenged. The ridiculousness of it kind of makes me wonder. The State Police already think it is illegal to release this information and some are trying to pass a law that clearly states that.
