I'm looking at a Remington model 700 .243 for sale. I have the serial number or what I believe to be the serial number at least. I also have some pics that show some scratches and dents to the wood stock. Can anyone help me out on what this might be worth?

It will make a difference if it is ADL or BDL, regular or varmit barrel, date of manufacture. A BDL and varmit barrel increase the value. IMO the wood stocks on the older guns are nicer.

Its a BDL but not sure about the date of manufacture or barrel type....yet. Still looking around for a way to verify all that.
Thanks Bill.

Glad to help. If you have pictures you should be able to tell the type of barrel. The varmint barrel is much thicker and doesn't have iron sights. You also should be able to google the serial number for a manufacture date.

After you have this information, you could go here and see what they're going for.

Moved the topic here since the Market category should be for buying, selling, and trading only. Firearm information, including determining relative value, should be here in the General Gun, Shooting & Equipment Discussion category.

Remingtons are dated by barrel code rather than serial number.

I passed on the rifle out of fear it was over priced. It appearrs my gut feeling was right. Thanks Y'all.
