Just wondering what other CHL'ers do for the winter time. I have been carrying IWB since I got my CHL a few months back. The OWB style looks interesting to me but I am sure there are pros and cons. Looking forward to reading the reply's from some more expierenced CHL veterans. Thanks in advance.

I do OWB all of the time. Summer or winter. Only other choice for me is pocket carry of my P3AT.

As big as I am (trying to lose some weight) I refuse to buy larger pants for IWB. Maybe when I lose enough weight I can use my current size pants and try it.

I'll carry IWB regardless. I run warm, so I frequently take off jackets, so OWB wouldn't work for me. I typically wear a shirt tucker everywhere I go as well.

The wife got me a nice shoulder rig for Christmas, I've been wearing it around the house working on the adjustments. I'm not "allowed" to wear it out untill after Christmas. I'm not big on OWB.

I am going OWB in the cool weather. Mom is this very day making me another vest. Man she is sharp w/ a sewing machine.
Am presently using a Mitch Rosen custom built holster that I bought from the original owner who decided he did not like it or the double mag carrier. Belt came w/ it.
After a good bit of time & several all nights w/ some paper shims in the holster & mag carrier, they are broke in & doing well. I still like kydex better & may be trying that OWB before the winter is over.

Whew! Mitch Rosen...

That's a shame you have to cover that one up!

All the more call for "open carry"!!!

Here it comes...I just know it!!!

But regardless of the temperature or season...I'm slaved to the IWB mode for now...I'm just used to it...

I'll probably shift to the "other" mode, when that "other" thing happens... ;-)

Did that a couple weeks ago. I sure like the OWB better.

It still hasn't gotten cold enough for me to wear a jacket for more than 5 minutes a day. Even last night when I went out, it was t-shirt and jeans.

Needless to say I will probably stay IWB for a while. I run warm blooded and people in Texas seem to think when its 50 outside, it needs to be 80 inside. Crazy I tell ya....

+1 on cyphur's comment on temperatures.

It is IWB all the way for me:

1) Whenever possible, I always prefer to keep my handgun triad the same: same gun, same holster, same ammunition = fewer surprises.

2) Most of my pants are sized for IWB, and are consequently better for moving around and concealing things.

Years ago I did the OWB thing, and while it can be more comfortable than IWB, the concealability and other characteristics of my IWB rig has a unique comfort all its own. I have made my choice, and am sticking with it.

For the occasional cold days in late December through late February, I might add an extra base layer or two for warmth, and this year I am looking closely at UnderArmour HeatGear for this purpose. Believe it or not, I hope to continue wearing a similar type of outer/cover garment. I would sooner put on a knit cap than wear a jacket, as it would be more effective in keeping you warm. And if I did put on a jacket, its pockets may make for nice locations to park additional guns (what I call "floaters"), as a complement to the usual IWB.

I am an IWB kinda guy for a number of reasons. Consistancy and security being the main reasons. You can wear or take off the jacket without concern. Who knows what the wether will be like in 10 minutes.

I'll likely stick to IWB most of the time. I have a Ruger SP101 I like to carry OWB about twice a year if I plan to keep a jacket on all day. I tend to worry about it way more than I should....so I usually stay away from it!

I also seem to stay warm and don't keep a jacket on long unless I'm outside all day, so I will likely stay with the IWB C-Tac for a while. I am very self aware when I do use my OWB. I would like to use the OWB more, but the C--Tac is just so comfortable and familiar.
