In case ya'll hadn't heard the Cabela's on 35W north of Fort Worth opened up today. Should be nice to have one of those around, even though we do already have that big Bass Pro Shop.

I forgot about that! Must go soon. I've purchased a few things online but never been in one of the stores.

Next time I head over to Cheaper Than Dirt I might drop in there.

We'll be getting one in Texarkana soon. I believe it will be opening in September or October.

By my estimate they are 8.5 miles north of CTD, well worth the trip.

I'm sorta anxious to see it, but don't like crowds, so may wait a while. And probably best leave the checkbook and American Express card at home!

Cabela's also opens in Buda, TX on 6/30/05 (a month away). I'm looking forward to that one. It is about 70 miles from me. Bass Pro is opening in San Antonio I think this summer. That's about 5 miles from me.

I loaded up the family yesterday and went to Cabelas in Ft Worth. What a MADHOUSE!
The place was packed with folks from all over. There were as many out of state plates in the PL as TX plates.
I couldn't even get close to the gun counter.
I did manage to get out with some supplies though, like pistol boresnakes for $12 and 100rnd plastic ammo boxes @ 4 for $5. I heard they were serving Elk casarole in the eatery but the line was a couple hundred people deep.
I highly recommend waiting until the hype has cooled before going.

i am thoroughly disappointed in cabela's. i've bought stuff through their catalog, but i figured their store would have plenty to see. went in looking for a pearce grip for my .45. they only had 4 sets of gun grips and 3 were for single action revolvers. what kind of store with over 300 guns doesn't carry grips for a 1911? that's some messed up crap if you ask me.
i ended up going to cheaper than dirt and got a cheap wilson checkered front strap wrap around instead. gotta have something on this bright stainless duty gun.
i can't believe cabela's doesn't carry gun grips. :x

I will be going to Texas Motor Speedway Thursday, so I may drop in there, but CTD is on the agenda.

For as long as I waited for that place to open, I was not thrilled with the prices. The pistol prices were nothing special and the pistol ammo was the same, I am still finding Academy Sports to have the best gun and ammo prices...For the range the CCI Blazers in 9mm and .380 work fine..
Just my opinion...........

Ahh yes, the ammo. The one thing I can say about the ammo at Cabelas is that they keep Buffalo Bore ammo on the shelf. Nobody else carries that locally that I'm aware of.

HV,
Thanks for bringing that up, I was it on the shelf, what is Bullalo Bore?

Buffalo bore makes some of the most powerful commercially available ammo that you can buy.
The only ammo I would recommend over Bufflao Bore is DoubleTap. But, Cabelas doesn't sell that.
