Rep Garza - District 117

So I have tried on several occasions to contact Rep Garza and vocalize my support/non support for various pieces of legislation and once a staffer answered the phone who was nice, but not very helpful. She couldn't even say whether or not he supported a bill or not. I have also left several messages with NO call back so I have decided that next week since the kiddos are off for spring break (and I am off Thurs and Fri) that we might take a little field trip up to Austin to the Capital and while we are there the Governors Mansion and other things there.

So to my point I have a few questions:

1. Other than the Capital and Governors Mansion, are there any other things in Austin to finish up the day (might even stay overnight) that would be both interesting and educational.

2. Any one else have any experiences with Rep Garza, good or bad, and what you opinion is of him......At this point I am almost regretting not voting for "Never Quits" Leibowitz.

TIA

Bryan

I think the only comment I can make here is PLEASE keep it concealed.
And there are probably better places to go. I think the show there is overpriced IMHO.

The Bob Bullock Texas History museum is just a little NW of the Capitol. If you've never been, it's pretty cool.

The LBJ library at UT. You don't have to be a huge fan of Jhnson to apreciate the Library. He led us through intresting times, and it is free.

It's a ways from downtown/Capitol, but The Oasis restaurant on Lake Travis has possibly the most beautiful sunset view in all of Texas (food and drinks are overpriced). Mt. Bonnel on Lake Austin also has stunning views (and no overpriced food/drink).

If you're looking for good food downtown, Stubb's Barbecue is good. And Threadgill's just south of Town Lake (now Lady Bird Lake) is some of the best "southern" cookin' around.

Bullock museum is definitely worthwhile.

Texas Wildflower Center is educational.

Not sure age of your kids, but the Children's Museum downtown is great for youngsters. Probably 12 and under? But really geared toward elementary age.

If you have teens, they'd probably enjoy seeing "The Drag" (Guadalupe St. near UT) and 6th Street ... both of which are tame enough during the day ... Definitely don't go either place with kids after dark.

Too bad it's March ... in the Fall, watching the bats fly out from under the Congress Ave bridge is really cool (enough bats that they blacken the dusk sky for a few moments).
