As a result of entering Tom Gresham's "Gun Talk/Crimson Trace" sweepstakes
last month, I received a large envelope today from Crimson Trace in Wilsonville, Oregon.

I was expecting to get the free DVD "The Art of Survival", but they also sent a large,
42 page long catalog with all details about their lasers and the weapons on which they will fit.

"The Art of Survival" DVD is about 30 minutes long and covers tactics during self-defense
encounters, and how adding a Crimson Trace to your gun will assist you. It's professionally
done, using highly competent shooters.

The shooting sequences were done at a range in Ogden, Utah.

CTC offers 3 types of lasers, with regard to mounts:
Laserguard, which attachs to the front of the gun's trigger guard, nestling under the barrel.
Lasergrips, which wrap around the grip.
Long gun lasers, which are mounted on a modular vertical foregrip, for AR-15 style guns.

CTC's handgun lasers are red, but on the long guns you may choose either red or green.

For anyone that would like to get the free DVD and a catalog, you can request these at
http://www.crimsontrace.com or call 1-800-442-2406. They are in Oregon (Pacific time)
and are open on the phones from 7A-5P, Monday through Friday.

Email them at "customer@crimsontrace.com".

Is the title a dig at Magpul for their "The Art of [Insert Highspeed Thing Here]" series? I'll have to check out the DVD - I'm curious to see what they have to say about lasers on longguns. Thanks for the heads up!

The DVD is worth watching.

A laser is not a replacement for sighted fire - it is an adjunct that can be especially helpful in certain situations, like having to fire from an awkward position where you can't bring your eyes into alignment with the sights. This is something that can happen when things go south in real life.

Excaliber:

Yes, I agree that the video is very good at showing you how you may benefit from a laser
in an awkward shooting situation (on the ground, say, or in your driver's seat).

Or when you would like most of your body to be behind cover, but still engage the threat with
rounds.

When we consider marksmanship with our guns, we look at the sight picture, and concentrate
on our front sights. But if you were trying to shoot from an awkward position, you will not be
able to remain right behind your sights, as at the range.

With the laser, you can put it on the BG and engage him, even if your body is mostly on one side of cover
and your gun hand is on the other side. The laser will clearly show point of aim, even when
your head is away from the gun.
