Purchase a gun while traveling???

The wife are full time RVers and are currently in Southern Arizona for the winter. As a longtime Texas resident (still with a house there), can I purchase a gun in Arizona or any other state legally? I have come across a Ruger SP101 that looks enticing, but want to know the legalities before going any further.
Thanks,
Joe

IANAL, but as a Texas resident you couldn't buy a gun in Arizona. You would have to have to shipped to a FFL in Texas.

How about with a private sale? Same rules apply?

That's outside of my area of knowledge.

I think the same rules apply on private sale : Length of prison term etc.

Thanks, I have seen the chain gangs (sans chains) out here cleaning up the freeways. I have NO desire to trade my shorts and t shirt in for a pink or orange jumpsuit.

All private sales to non-residents of a state must go through an FFL.
All handgun sales to an out of state buyer must go through an FFL in the buyer's home state.
Long guns sales can be made to non-residents, but must be transferred by an FFL.

I wonder if you could have the seller ship it to your FFL, with a completed 4473.
Then have the FFL mail it to you?
Give your hometown FFL several self-addressed FedEx Overnight boxes ?
But I think you would need to just ship it to your hometown FFL and pick it up next time you go home.

Won't work, Laws/Regulations require that you complete the 4473 in the presence of the dealer making the transfer.

State Law may be different but

for Federal Law.

I assume you mean the first suggestion won't work.
shipping it home for later pickup definitely works

...the out-of-state FFL ships it to the hometown FFL...you fill out the 4473 when you pick it up in Texas...you pay the dealer wherever and may pay a small fee in Texas to do the 4473 unless the store waives it...the out-of-state dealer cannot process a 4473 on you and doesn't need one to ship to the Texas FFL...

I bought a handgun out-of-state last year. Had it shipped back to TX and paid the FFL to transfer here.
Since I paid for the gun in the state I bought it in and not in Texas and since that state has NO SALES tax, the deal was worth the hassle. You should negotiate with the seller to pay the shipping. The transfer cost will be from $20 to $10.
The only inconvenience is the wait to get your handgun :-(

Nope, not his guest nor a guest of any other Arizona lawman either.
