Bought a Ruger 22/45 slabside this week. Going out to shoot it this afternoon, and I'm excited. When I went to pick up ammo this morning, my jaw dropped. 525 rounds for 20 bucks. If I think about the money I've spent on .45 at the range in the last few years.....

I picked up a couple boxes of 7.62x39 for the upcoming zombie apocalypse while I was there and looking at the receipt, realized that over 500 rounds of .22lr cost the same as 80 rounds of 7.62 does. Ouch!

Hopefully this addition will encourage me to go shoot more, since it won't hurt the wallet as much now.

74novaman - This is a wise choice. I have a similar model and highly recommend it. I have found that .22s are very good for economically keeping up shooting skills.

Well done! I have the 5.5" stainless hunter model. I love shooting that thing.

Two things to keep under consideration:

1. Easy to take down. An absolute woolly booger to put back together. Even following the directions in the owners manual to the letter won't work every time. Be patient.
2. When cleaning it, be very very careful. The machined edges around and inside the receiver are razor sharp, and they will cut you if you slip.

Other than that, enjoy the heck outta that little tiger.

After reading about what a pain it is, I bought a bore snake and a can of cleaner. If its working reliably, I'll just spray and snake it every time I use it. Until I get bored one day and have an afternoon to disassemble and reassemble it I guess. Heading out to the range here in an hour or so!

After I fought my Mk111 for hours before getting it back together right, I decided it would not come apart again.

I installed the Majestic Arms Speed Strip Kit on my Mark II and haven't looked back. Just don't pull the trigger once the bolt is out, otherwise you have to do it the hard way.

After loading 300 rounds without it, my thumbs were just killing me, now its not much effort and no sore thumbs!

Just got back from the range. I think I put 300 rounds into the target in about an hour and a half and had a blast.

Gun functioned great, with a few FTfire that were the ammunitions fault, and a couple of failures to feed. out of 300 round for a target pistol, I'll call that acceptable. I need to pick up more magazines though...only getting to shoot 20 rounds before reloading was a pain.

The trigger is light, the sights were on target (shooting mainly from the 7 yard line, everything was in the 9 ring and the 10 ring was punched out completely by the time i finished shooting).

I even got a chance to shoot someones new STI Spartan they had out there. After shooting the 22/45 all afternoon, it was nice getting to compare it to the 1911. The grip is the same, and I shot some steel with the STI and didn't miss once. It really did feel like the 22/45 skillset transfered easily and naturally to shooting the 1911 again

I foresee more frequent trips to the range with a lot more lead slung at the target with this pistol. It was worth every penny.

their is quite a few videos on youtube to show you how to take it apart and put it back together. once you do it a few times its not that hard. really all you need is a rubber mallet and maybe a dowel to take the back part out to get the slide out.

Absolutely.
my B-I-L and I went a couple times and after shooting probably 1000 rounds through my various 9mm's over the past 16 months, after 20 minutes or so with the Mark III, we learned new stuff. it was great!

The trigger is incredible, barely a pull and almost zero slack. In my Springfield, there is a good 1/8 to 1/4 inch of slack.

I noticed that when I put in a new mag, if I didn't give it a good hit to be sure it was seeded 100%, it wouldn't load a new round or would 1/2 way feed it. - this was after 3 or 4 Fail to Feeds, after I realized that, none at all.

The only negative that I have with it is the magazine release, it barely drops the magazine, maybe 1/16th of a inch, and i have to get one of my non-existent fingernails to get in there to pull it out.

I see this weapon probably saving me much more than the $360 +tx that I spent on it, and being worth more than every penny.

I have a MK3 Hunter in full stainless with a 6 7/8" fluted barrel. It's more accurate than I could ever hope to be.

Its so awesome. No getting lead or copper residue all over your hands with this one. Takes about 10 seconds to load a magazine.
