I know I just posted another story the other day, but yesterday my friend told me he just got robbed while working on his car in the garage. He lives in a nicer neighbhorhood with $150,000+ homes off of a quiet substreet, but I guess that just made him an easy target.

Four black guys in their 20's and 40's tied him up and one had a gun. They stole his family's money and jewerly and left him in a room. Thank goodness they didn't hit or shoot him. He heard them say, "let's go." Well he got his brother's gun and chased them out the house, and they got away. He did call the cops, and the lady asked him why he sounded so calm. He said he has a gun now.

This is bull. I live 5 mins away from him and there will be no mercy if it happens to me.

How did he chase them if he was tied up? And why did he bother doing a stupid thing like that?
If you're going to shoot, do so BEFORE they tie you up!
He's very fortunate they didn't kill him.

Your friend is vey lucky. Just goes to show that no where is safe.

Sorry I forgot to mention every detail. I'm bad at that. He managed to untie the rope when he was in the room.

I'm not condoning his actions, I think he could have done better. But yes he's lucky.

That is (EDITED) lady, just send the cops, they could still be lurking around the neighborhood.

Having a gun may be comforting, but if he doesn't know how to hit w/ it, it isn't much good.

I've only got scared once at night and grabbed my gun. Let me tell you, I was not calm, in fact I was very scared. If you compete in any sports, you'll know about the rush from excitement, well this is not the same, this is fear and excitement mixed together. I didn't even think about any laws/consequences of shooting and I was already worked up so much.

Although I've never been robbed, I think I would not be calm in your friends situation. I would insist a few cops come over immediately; I probably might vent my frustration on those cops too.

You didn't mention whether this happened during the daytime or at night. Also, what state?

This is the exact reason that I keep my pistol within arms reach, if not on me, when I'm working on the car or the boat. Yes, it may be slightly uncomfortable, but if a group of thugs comes up and wish to do me harm, my comfort will be the least of my worries. Now my LIFE could be on the line.

One of the things I try to remember not to do during the holidays...

Is get in a rush...

What I mean by that is simple...

Anywhere where you have to transition from walking and slipping into your vehicle, or the opposite is one of those times I believe anyone, regardless if they are armed or not...Whether they are sufficiently trained enough...You are vunerable...

To aleviate that somewhat...Not totally, but somewhat...

I tend to sit in the vehicle for a few more seconds than usual...Before I exit the vehicle, I scan the area, checking mirrors, just like I am driving...

Look around the area to see if anyone is walking up past the rear of the vehicle...Allowing them to pass before I unlock and open the door and quickly exit, getting my balance and keeping my guard up...

I do the opposite when getting in...If I have packages, I usually try to keep them in my off shooting hand, or place them on the ground while I unlock and open the door...All the time I am scanning, and observing, and keeping my drawing and shooting hand clear to do what it needs to do if the situations warrants...

I quickly put the packages or bags into an area, either in the trunk (preferrable if its a sedan type vehicle, or in the back part of the cab of a truck)...

The reason for not cloggin up the drivers seat at all, for lack of doing anything but sit down shut the door, and lock the vehicle up as soon as I get in the seat, is to not have to fumble with packages before I fully secure myself and any others with me in the vehicle...

I know its seems silly, but I think its critical to focus, especially during this time of year to be hyper vigilant...

As Charles and many other instructors will tell you, keep your head on a swivle...

This of course applies everywhere, regardless if you are in familiar territory (driveway), or at a shopping mall or other parking lot facility...

Thanks for that, Stevie. Shopping season starts into full swing in just a few days. We'll have to park farther and farther from the stores, and some of us will shop later into the evening.

The criminals start to feel their own version of holiday cheer as the rest of us begin shopping. They're always looking for a target.
Crime definitely goes up this time of year. Be watchful.

Call me Scrooge if you want, but I hate shopping and I hate crowds. When it comes to the holidays, I shop online as much as possible and let UPS figure out how to deal with the traffic.

Oh, I love the shopping, but I've decided that the crooks aren't allowed to bother me.
I'm watchful, and I have the "feminine protection" should avoiding the situation not work out.
