CONVERSATION WITH LIBERAL BUDDY ON CHL

My buddy over in California who I served with and I had this conversation via txt messaging earlier. I'm editing for PG13, but you should all get the gist. It all started with a facebook comment on Texas Campus Carry laws.....

Caleb--Apparently Campus Carry passed through Texas Senate, guess we will see what happens with it.

Cerda-What the heck do you want to carry a gun to school for?

Caleb--Things are different outside of California, if criminals can carry here, we think the good citizens should be able to as well.

Cerda-Thats friggin stupid dude

Caleb--Some say so, I disagree. It's debatable and multi-faceted discussion, so feelings differ. But there are only a few other states besides California that almost definately will not issue concealed handgun licenses to folks of clear mind, morals, and convictions and also legal age. If someone like that chooses to carry for his/her and their families safety, I see nothing wrong with it and fully support it.

Cerda-So what happens when said person has a bad day that throws him over the edge?

Caleb--The same thing that happens when someone who is unlicensed has a bad day. Point is, licensed or not, if you want to shoot up your town/block/house/walmart-whatever, your going to do it. And licensed or not, if you want to carry a gun there is nothing stopping you. I just choose to do it legally under constitutional and Texas law.

Cerda-So your solution is to have more people with guns? So now someone who gets angry but doesn't own a weapon just has to sucker punch you and then they are armed.

Caleb--Our laws only allow us to carry concealed, so no one would know I had it unless I showed them...or something were to happen where I pulled it in self defense. Also, anyone can get a gun if they want one. If your not legally able to own one, it's as easy to buy off the black market as marijuana.

Cerda-Glad I dont live in Texas, thats a stupid solution

Caleb--It's not a solution, it's simply a matter of protecting ourselves and our families. The same reasoning behind carrying pepper spray or a knife applies to a concealed handgun. Crime isn't something I am trying to solve, I'm just doing everything in my power to stand up for myself and my family if need be.

Cerda-Whatever man.

I'm sure I could have done better, but I'm not as witty as some of y'all are. But the fact is, this is what we are up againt. Liberal minded folks can't get past the "guns kill people.." Ugh.

:banghead:

Guess we gotta keep the fight up dont we? I cringe at every news story about some CHL'er somewhere, even out of Texas, doing something stupid.

I'd like to fund a study with the result of, discharging firearms reduces greenhouse gasses, and then liberals will love them!

A nice counter-argument a very good friend mentioned to me a few days ago about the whole "guns kill people" argument is;

If guns kill people

does

A spoon make people fat?

It's all about the operator, not the tool.

I have a reformed buddy who always questioned the need for guns, the last conversation before he purchased his first gun was about 2 days after he had his first daughter.

Non Gun Buddy: I can't see having guns in the house, especially now that I have kids.

Steveincowtown: Really...what is the average response time of the police in (his town).

Non Gun Buddy: Oh, pretty decent. I think they say like 5 minutes or something.

Steveincowtown: Well that seems like a long time to watch a bad guy attack your wife and daughter before the cops get there.

He bought a gun 2 days later and then I took him to the gun show to get a safe that weekend.

Yeah, it's easy to argue against gun rights when libs take themselves out of the context.

On second thought, I think there is a Liberal Gun Control badge that is similar to the concealed handgun badge..think it has a donkey on it! lolol..thats what keeps em safe, duh. No wonder they are safe!

I'm curious if anyone will get the donkey badge joke. I have faith.

These things tend to hit home with people when it can be related to them on a personal level.

My wife is not a big fan of guns but she allows them in the home. I had been talking with a buddy of mine about buying a shotgun from him and my wife was OK with it but not really enthused either. Then one night when we were watching TV and the baby was asleep, we heard a loud hammering sound on our back fence (which runs along an open field). I grabbed a flashlight and my handgun while the wife grabbed our baby and we retreated to another part of the house. I dug out my cell phone and called the Sheriff's Office.

It turned out to be nothing but wouldn't you know it, after that my wife was a lot more interested in getting that shotgun.

"Whatever man" - never was there a better, more convincing end to an argument.

People don't generally just snap like some people seem to imply. Of that were the case, I'd think we'd see a lot more pocket knife murder, pencil murders and assault with text books. The truth is, almost every one had opportunity to commit murder every day with whatever tools happen to be nearby.

Yep. Everyone who owns a firearm wants to murder everyone at some point in time. Folks who own firearms and a conceal carry license are even more apt to do so because they actually carry firearms with them. Solid reasoning, with a dose of sarcasm.

It makes sense and I've seen people use that one, but I've also seen what some antis have in rebuttal. They just say that spoons aren't MADE to hurt people but guns are, as if it can jump up by itself and go bang...they REFUSE to see that an inanimate, non-computer controlled object like a firearm CANNOT function without human interaction. Mostly, these are the people that Col. Jeff Cooper called "hoplophobes", and there simply is no reasoning with them. With others, you do your best and sometimes you get through the fog...
