How would something like this perform for home security? I'm thinking of putting one of these by my front door.

It would work great until the super bright white strobe light went off and then you're out a camera....'cause I seriously doubt it would be there after a BG realized that he just had his picture taken.

Ah... Can that flash be turned off? I have really bright porch lights.
I was also thinking that just the sight of it would have any actual bad guy move along to somewhere else... maybe with my camera, but he likely wouldn't come inside wondering if the picture is also stored elsewhere.

Anyone else would just be annoyed by it.

I just started this thought process, so I may not have thought it through enough.

the pics are stored on a memory card.
as far as disabling the strobe....i guess, just get in there and remove it or break it.

Yeah... criminals are stupid though. They don't know they're only stored on a memory card, right?

It's definitely not the best solution for what I'm thinking, but thanks for the info. Off to research actual home security cameras...

I have one at my front gate facing the driveway, originally put it there to photograph deer coming to my feeder, but soon learned that it works great to keep track of who comes and goes when. Specifically, my teenage daughters and their boyfriends. Anyhow, one day I looked at the pictures and saw the UPS guy smiling for the photo, apparently once the flash goes off there is slight delay before the picture. One day I was home when he came and I recognized him, I mentioned it and he thought it was funny that I noticed. Anyhow, I think they are good for generic security, but if they are not hidden, and or if they flash at night, all the bad guy would have to do is destroy/steal it.
