I don't want to burst your bubble, but a BHP and 1911 are not the same.
Similar, yes. The same, no.

WIki articles aren't bad on either. Both JMB designs, but markedly different in several aspects.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_Hi-Power
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1911_pistol
I'm fond of and own both.

Correction it must of been a 1911 because it was a .45 and the article states the Hi-power is a 9mm.

Yup. Also, BHP is DA/SA while 1911's are SA.

My Hi-power must be broke - - - it's
single action as are all other BHPs I've seen.

Held my first 1911 today...
Good, good.
Today while running errands I stopped at a local gun store and while I was browsing I asked if I could take a closer look at the browning Hi-powered...
What the....?!
Well, O.K., the BHP is a good gun.
I thought before I piced it up that there was no way it would fit my hand right because of my large hands and the gun being a single stack...
What the...!?

LOL!
One of those days eh?

Look...it was a gun...and was probably made of steel...and it had a trigger. Give him a break.
Just kidding, the 1911 is a great gun with a storied history. I highly recommend shooting one but then you'll be hooked.

Oh, my bad.
That only makes about 237 times I've been wrong... today.

BHP is NOT single stack!
It is the first double stack 13 round magazine made.
It is not a 1911 and does not say 1911 on the side. It does have similar controls as a 1911 but although they look similar they function differently but do the same thing.
The BHP is not a double action. It is single action only.
loadedliberal.......
If you can find a real Browning Hi-Power, and hold it in your hand, you will definitely want to take it home with you.

I corrected myself, sorry my mistake was so upsetting to you.

I'm not upset, but you should be.......
The guy that handed you the pistol when you asked to see a Browning Hi "Powered" obviously does not know what one is either.

I asked to see the 1911, what I think happened was I read a tag of the gun next to it. He handed me a .45 1911 he did his job right I screwed up in writing my post.
