In Rexburg, Idaho (middle of nowhere), in 2009 a family bought a house. At closing they signed a form acknowledging that the house was infested with snakes. The real-estate agent reportedly told them that previous owners concocted the snake story so that they could get out of their mortgage.

The house was in fact infested with garter snakes. The homeowner sometimes killed more than 40 a day.

Eventually the owners declared bankruptcy and fled. The house is now owned by a bank, vacant, and no longer on the market.

I had never heard of such a thing.

They might have tried mongooses or ferrets, but then the house would be infested with small carnivorous mammals.

I saw this article a few days ago. I started to feel sorry for them until I read that they signed a paper at closing that disclosed the house was infested with snakes. Regardless of what the real estate agent said, they should have actually verified it.

We see that on the coast when people sign forms that say the house they are buying may be subject to severe windstorm damage, flooding, and erosion up to and including total destruction—and then they are shocked when that actually happens.

And then they sue and get their property back from the Texas Supreme Court.

So is an infestation of snakes a real impossible thing to deal with? Is this an Indiana Jones thing?

...amazing!!! I've seen water moccasins "ball up" during mating but this many snakes together would be unnerving...never knew they did that...the few garter snakes I've found were fun to play with and look at...that many...not so much...

Same with the deadbeats who triggered the mortgage system collapse. They signed loan paperwork that explained their rate could change, and then whined when it did. Even worse, they walked away from their responsibilities as adults. Act like children but they object to being treated like children as a consequence.

No wonder we have the government we do.
