took the wife and her new bersa thunder 380 to the in law's property yesterday to let her break it in. Turns out, the DA trigger pull is too much for her hands and she cant get the first shot off without manually cocking the hammer back. i would imagine it'll get easier as the pistol racks up round count, but until then im wondering if there's something i can do to make it easier for her.

im gonna grab her a little hand exercise thing but wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with switching out a spring or something on the bersa to make it easier to pull the trigger in DA mode.

The difference in pull weight between single action and double action can mostly be attributed to the hammer spring weight. Reducing the hammer spring weight would make the double action pull easier at the risk of light hammer strikes/misfires. I am not familiar with the spring weights on the Bersas or whether you run much risk of light hammer strikes if you replace the spring with a lower rated one. Perhaps there is a Bersa board online that has more information.

That was one of my first guns when I started to ccw. I don't remember me or my wife having any of those issues. Maybe work with her to improve her grip strength like with a racket ball or one of those guitar grip finger exercisers.

Also, you can load the pistol with some snap caps and kill 2 birds with one stone.

She can work on her trigger finger strength and work in the pistol at the same time.

Academy up here didn't carry the snap caps. Only place I could find them was at CTD and Cabellas.

My wife has no problems with our Bersa Thunder 380. Course there may some difference since she's been shooting occasionally for nearly 50 years. My daughter can shoot it okay but doesn't like it. Her hand is small and forces her grip around too far. Bearvertail rocks into her thumb joint.

Unless things have changed, the counter guys at Academy will stare at you kinda like when you ask about snap caps. This happened to me at 2 local Academy before I grabbed some at the gun show.

I think Gander Mountain on I45N has snap caps. At least they did when we were there a while back.

The Academy gun bar guy at my local store stare at me funny for a lot of basic questions. I get a little concerned hearing them dispense advice to the novice customer.

Gander Mountain in Sugar Land also has snap caps and based upon my experience, I may be giving them some of my business on a gun purchase even if it is a wee bit more than buying online.
