I really know nothing of glocks so i need some help.

I want to get a glock 17. A store here has it for 480. is that a good price or should i try getting one at the gun show? its a 3rd gen. I tried out the 4th gen and im not sure if i like the different grip texture. And ive heard of some issues with 4gen spring problems. so let me know what you think.

From what I've seen, that's a good price (given it's new). Most Glocks retail for around $500, at least in my neck of the woods. I wouldn't pay more than $525 unless I had a good reason.

Yes $480 is good new Glock price. But since this is a Gen 3 you should be able to find a used one for about $400-$450.

Only difference between used and new Glock is a few moderately useful add ons (cleaning brush & rod, speedloader) - assuming used one doesn't include those. But Glocks last forever so likely little-to-no mechanical difference between new and used. Only Glock part I've ever NEEDED to replace is recoil spring after 10 years and unknown number of rounds (well into 5-digit range). But swapping out newer/better parts (extended slide stops, sights, trigger parts etc) is so easy that I usually upgrade those also and you might find those as a bonus on some used guns.

Sounds like the sale going on at Academy. Pretty good price cuts on Berettas, Glocks etc.
If it were me I wouldn't spend almost 500 on a gun I hated. Maybe do some research on aftermarket mags and get something you like..
Just sayin.....But then again you might end up liking the Glock....

agreed - not sure spending good money on something you dislike makes good sense.

there are other options out there if you are just wanting a high capacity firearm in a pistol format.


BUT that is a good price for a new gen3

The 4th gen is a great gun and they have corrected the spring issue. If you happen to get one of the old stock you can call glock up and get the new spring for it. Personally i would look at the 19 over the 17 but hey that's just me and I would buy the gen 4 but that's just me.
