Just ordered myself a couple of these

one of these

and a grab bag of little pieces that look like small gun parts:

Wonder if I can make them into something?

I want a 20" upper, I'm pretty set on BCM. Then BCG handguards and a carry handle!

Hey, I was always told that if you put it back together and had parts left over, then you've simply made it more efficient than it was before you started to work on it. ;-)

I'm getting more serious about starting the same project. Where did you order the stripped lower from?

Got them from aimsurplus.

I ordered 2 but while I was on the phone dealing with the FFL transfer, the woman literally said "wait we only have one of these left for you... wait nevermind it's gone too" :grumble

They put them on backorder for me, should be back in a week.

Edit: are you starting a 20" build?

No, I'm planning on a 16" midlength, and lighter the better.

I'm planning on starting a project at the end of the month with some of those parts as well. I haven't finalized the length yet though. Why are you going with 20"?

Great kind of project to start. They are tons of fun to build and even more fun to shoot. Aim is a great company to deal with. I have done thousands in business with them and would continue to do so. Have fun and take your time building the lower.

Those $60 lowers are a real bargain.

One tip for you: when it's time to inset the front detent pin and spring, do that part inside a big plastic bag - big enough to get both hands and the receiver inside.
OK, two tips: Get a long 1/4" bolt, cut off the threaded part, and cross-drill it so the detent pin will pass through.

The above will save you a lot of time on your knees examining the carpet in the dark recesses of your work area, then waiting for the replacement pin to come in the mail. :banghead:

Texanron: I decided to build a rifle length system because: I already have a carbine (might be HAD soon im considering selling it to fund this.) and I think it would give me a little more accuracy, stability (fixed stock) and muzzle velocity. I'm going to keep iron sights so I can work on my marksmanship with them. EDIT: also I have this crazy Idea for a pig hunting upper, and I want to be able to just mate it to my rifle buffer'd lower. Maybe a 6.8? maybe just a SS bull bbl with a place to mount my flashlight?

Rex: I've been there and done that! When something springs out and it hits the ceiling you know it's going to be a long day! I learned to start using a plastic bag after waiting 3 weeks for a replacement rear sight for a S&W wheelgun. After waiting that long i was real careful

I ordered up a few more parts for this, I got the upper receiver from Palmetto State, as well as the lower (found them for the same price over there). Barrel will be a CMMG gov't profile. I also built myself I nice work table with a vise. Can't wait to get started :txflag:

So I've been doing some rough estimates and this should come out below the dollar mark.

100 lower
300 upper
165 bbl
70 stock
100 handguards and carry handle + some misc stuff like gas block pins.

I picked up my lower today and it only took me about 2 hours to get the lower assembled and the stock attached. Not too bad, had a few scratches when my pliers slipped :banghead:. My guns all end up like that in the end so I've stopped worrying about cosmetics.

I put the forward assist and ejection port door on the stripped upper, and assembled the delta ring/barrel nut assembly (it was a pain I wish I had snap ring pliers). All I need now is a carry handle and a barrel assembly! :woohoo

I'll snap a few photos later if I can.

The feed ramps look like they are factory. Match made in heaven right there.

Everything on the upper is just mocked up right now. I need to get the A2 front sight installed and then I'll tighten the barrel nut, FH, etc...
