How do you make a rifle sleeve like this?

i have a winchester 9422 that has a leather sleeve. it's made out of a really thick suede leather. this one has "winchester" stamped on it and the little frilly things, but i don't need that.

would it be hard to make something like this? some of the stands i crawl into are pretty tight, and i've done my fair share of damage to rifles crawling in and out of them. i usually keep them in a hard plastic case, but really that takes up a lot of room in my already packed jeep wrangler, and it's not practical to haul to a stand. i think this thick leather would be perfect if it had like a velcro closure flap on it, and maybe a sling. here's kind of what i'm talking about.

i guess i'm looking for something a little more custom. any ideas?

Why not a soft rifle case? Seems like it would do the trick. Sure, it won't look as nice.

i have those. the reason i like the sleeve is i can roll it up and stick it in one of the pockets in my small backpack that i carry. can't do that with a full blown case due to the stiffness and the zipper won't allow that much flex.

Chris,

You can buy that type of supple leather in sometimes fabric shops, craft shows, and other places that sell blank material...Get enough to lay the rifle (scoped) and fold over to make the sleeve...Mark the pattern...

Find someone with a heavy duty sewing machine, and bingo...You'll have a nice custom one to brag about!

I'd double the hem over and double stitch, due to the usage you'll need to get out of it...You may even consider using some "pop" rivets at certain places around the pattern to reinforce that stitch...

Just some ideas...I'm sure it'll turn out great for you...

Ah Ha, for your purpose then I would suggest using something like "flag cloth". It's just an outdoor synthetic. Any fabric store..
Might use two layers, and no fill material. Put some velcro on the flap end, or a drawstring. Velcro is simpler, a drawstring would be quieter.

I agree...The "ripping" of velco in the morning is likely to draw ire from fellow hunters in yer pack...

Either that, or somebody's going to think you had too many beans the night before...

When my brother and I were young, we got to go on early morning hunt with dad. Someone, had a few too many beans. At the Sound dad says,"What was that,,thought i heard a buck snort?"

It was one of those things that got wedged in our heads as hilarious. We were useless all day.
