I fell in love with the feel of the FNH USA FNX-9 handgun, and decided I wanted one of my own. I will say that I do have some issues with the gun, or actually its design, but they can be dealt with. The issues are that it can not be detail stripped without destroying the decock/safety lever, the decock/safety lever is poorly positioned, I can't ride the safety on this handgun or I decock it, and that about covers the issues I have with it. The features that made me want it are the feel, the fact it is completely ambidextrous, can be carried cocked and locked or decocked, capacity (17+1), the changeable backstraps, and the fact it comes with three factory mags. For southpaws, this handgun is about as well designed as they get. The slide lock/release is ambidextrous, the decock/safety lever is ambidextrous, and the mag release is ambidextrous. The only thing that a lefty won't find perfect about this gun is that it still ejects brass to the right. While I am not one I do shoot with a few southpaws and have taken notes.

How's the trigger pull on that sucker?

Trigger pull is like most DA/SA guns. In Single Action mode the trigger has a long take up an a relatively low pull weight, I would guess around 5lbs. In Double action mode the trigger feels to be about twice as heavy and there is some noticeable stacking.

I have been drooling after those for a few years now. Hope you enjoy! I am curious though, as I might actually want to purchase one of these at some point, what do you mean by, "can not be detail stripped without destroying the decock/safety lever"? This would seem like a big design flaw, and FN usually is well engineered in my experience. Happy shooting.

The two sides of the safety/decocker physically snaps together and has to be destroyed in order to be removed. Until recently FN was the only source for these parts, and they for were for in house installation only, but now that appears to have changed.

Been thinking about one of these myself. (I have a PS90).
Can I ask where you got it and what it cost you?

I got it from our Local Hardware store. As to what it cost I can't say, part of the deal, but it would have been slightly cheaper if we had ordered it from a different distributor. This particular gun was ordered from Davidson's, http://galleryofguns.com, who has their own lifetime warranty on all firearms they have ever sold so they do charge a little more.

Well I made it to the range with this one today. Out of 68 rounds fired I had one failure to feed when a less experienced shooter was trying it (He was limp wristing it). Accuracy is up there with some of above average handguns, but not quite on the level of my excellent handguns. I will admit that it is much more than accurate enough for self defense work. I will say I do not like the double action mode for the trigger, this one will be carried Condition 1 should I carry it. I can also say that I really like the sights and see no problems in this guns future.

Not to bring up an old thread, but how is this gun treating you so far? I'm thinking about getting this next and never had experience with FN pistols. I wouldn't necessarily carry this, but would use it as more of a range gun/home defense (like I need more guns for that).

I almost bought an FNX-9 a while back. One thing that occurred to me is that it seemed somewhat difficult to me to draw the gun and sweep the safety off without continuing on to decocking it. Was that just me lacking practice & muscle control, or is it something you've encountered as well?

I've been too tied up with other projects to shoot it much lately, I've only got a little more than 700 rounds through it. So far there has only been the one issue above.

In my case, when I grip the gun properly my trigger finger keeps the safety/decocker from sweeping down, and I can ride the safety while shooting without worry either.

Interesting... I'll have to try a higher grip on it the next time I've got a chance.

Is there a such thing as too many guns?

Great choice. The FN's come with 3 mags, a real asset. I picked up this FNP-9 Dark Earth about two years ago and it has never let me down. Picture is of the FN-9 with a Sig P250 Dark Earth for comparison. Like the FN-9 better.
