Non-resident CHL to resident CHL ?

I'm moving to Texas in August from Northern Cal. Looking at the documentation my interpretation is that applying in the first 6 months means that I get a non-resident CHL (and pay extra for the background check). Assuming that is correct - is there a path from the non-resident status to the resident status? Or does it even matter?
I assume that the wait for initial issue will be suitably extended. Of course the fact that I'm a DSF (dirty stinking foreigner :-) ) will delay things even more.

First off, welcome to the forum and soon to Texas!
The 6 month rule is no longer in place and you can apply as soon as you establish residency here in Texas. All you would need is a Texas drivers license or a utility bill showing you are now a resident.

Welcome to the forum Derek, we have quite a few instructors here on the forum and I am sure one of them can help you out with your question. The processing times have been getting faster, I got mine in a little over a month and it seam like now some people are getting them in 3 weeks.

I wasn't aware of any price difference. Is that something new?

It's as simple as any other address change these days.
