It has long been expected that Obama might try to use executive orders to implement gun control or other unpopular changes. However, if he did do this, I think he would seal his fate for no reelection. I would expect something like this from a 2nd term President, but not a 1st term. He may still be working on the groundwork so he can use these in a 2nd term and just show those in favor of gun control that he is not ignoring their cries, but not implement it and tick off the fence riders on supporting him because he is anti-2A. They already know the true Pro-2A supporters didn't vote for him and won't in 2012.

I agree, this move is somewhat surprising, especially when you look how the electoral votes broke down in last years election. FL, VA, IN, and NC were all won by Obama, but by razor thin margins. This could easily push them back over to the red side in 2012.
On a side note, anybody thinking about getting spare magazines with a 10+ capacity might want to go ahead and order those, quickly.

I think it might be time to start buying mags for guns I might own one day.

“The president directed the Attorney General to form working groups with key stakeholders to identify common sense measures........"
Is the NRA considered a key stakeholder? What do they have to say about this? Charles?

I thought I read somewhere that the NRA was "invited", but after considering the overall makeup of the working group, declined. Instead they sent a letter to Obama decrying the attempt to bypass the 2nd amendment. HOWEVER, I can't find that article now, so I suppose it could be a figment of my fertile imagination.

The first logical step for controlling illegal guns would be to arrest and prosecute those who used federal funds and agencies to circumvent US law to buy and send thousands of unlawfully purchased firearms to the Mexican cartels.
The list of folks involved would likely have a very high rate of overlap with those who are currently working to violate the constitution through illegal executive orders.

Still, executive actions offer something that legislation doesn't: guaranteed results. And as one gun control advocate told the Huffington Post, there are ways to "use these administrative changes to obtain similar results."
I wonder if bypassing the Legislative process is considered an impeachable offense.

You could ask Bush Clinton Bush Reagan Carter Ford Nixon etc. etc. etc. All have done things through executive order that would not of made it through the legislative process. The good thing about it is all it would take would be an executive order to reverse it.

Tampa ATF is selling guns illegally ... gunrunning
to Honduras
http://www.google.com/search?q=tampa+at ... =firefox-a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Should they be arrested first or the ones running guns to Mexico? and involved in THAT cover up? Tough decision ...
A new Project Gunwalker, running to Honduras .... new customers to generate income to offset the deficit?
See, "gun control" eliminates the competition, eliminates other sales/dealers /... so ATF can have a monopoly on gun sales ...
