I was reading a story from my beloved homeland about a felon caught with a cache of about 85 firearms (http://www.adn.com/2011/07/21/1979349/f ... cache.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). I presume he forfeited them. Does anyone know what happens to weapons in these types of situations? Are they destroyed? Auctioned?

Some jurisdictions destroy any gun they can get. Others use them for departmental purposes, including training or issue to officers. Some trade them in to places like GT when they buy new guns for the department. And some sell them either directly or by auction. TABC used a company that sold their seized guns on gunbroker.com.

24 loaded handguns and 59 rifles including two that were fully automatic.

And a man who lived there was a five-time felon who wasn't supposed to have guns at all.

Who cares what happened to them?
