DICKINSON, TX - DICKINSON - This morning shortly after the Texas First Bank opened at 8:00 a.m., two men entered the bank and robbed the tellers at gun point. The gunmen were young, possibly in their mid to late 20's, and dark skinned. Their faces were complete convered by their masks and they wore gloves. Very little skinned was revealed to determine exactly what race and/or skin color they were. They were wearing masks and were armed with handguns. They fled the bank in a late model Toyota.

The Toyota was later recovered on Oleander just west of Highway 3, less than one mile from the bank. The vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day during a carjacking in Galveston.

An undetermined amount of cash was taken from the bank. No physical injuries were reported.

Wow, every time I hear this, that is this close to us, I thankful my daughter don't work at the bank any more, She worked at the Texas First in Kemah..

A bank I was working at was robbed once. It was uneventful and they eventually caught the guy. I was more upset because I was robbed at the end of the day and had to stay late to talk to the FBI.

Earlier this week three men were arrested and charged with this robbery. They are also suspected of the carjacking that preceded it and two robberies of check-cashing storefronts in the area in August.

The men are age 20 to 22, residents of La Marque or Texas City. One man was a teller at the bank that was robbed. Their bond was set at $200,000 to $1 million each.

Interesting follow-up.

Guess the temptation of handling money every day was stronger than the teller's conscience.

You see that a lot with people who handle money. They have maybe millions a day go through their hands, and they feel like they're not getting paid enough. If they are smarter than this guy was, they embezzle. There was a story in yesterday's paper about a woman who was charged with stealing over $90,000 from the bank where she worked. Then you have the Enron-class ripoffs.

According to a copyrighted story in today's Galveston County Daily News, the bank teller who was involved in this robbery pleaded no contest to misdemeanor theft. He received deferred adjudication and six months probation.

He had been charged with aggravated robbery.

Police focused on him because he was working as a teller when the robbery occurred and appeared not to be alarmed. Detectives later found a link to one of the robbers on his Facebook page.

The actual robbers are in prison already. One was found guilty at a jury trial and sentenced to 25 years. The other pled guilty in return for an 18-year sentence.

All the men were from Texas City and in their early twenties.

The time from the crime to the disposition of all the cases is typical, two years.
