I know from the many post that either reference having a dog, or a dog which has passed, or a new dog to the family that many of you are K-9 lovers (as am I).

I just was renewing my pet insurance policy today and can't say enough about how good this place is:

I currently pay $23/ month for my retriever for the "gold plan." Last year she ate a Frisbee. $700 worth of bill later she was fixed up. I submitted the claim and had a check for $600 ($100 maximum per visit co pay) within a week. The year before that she had some sort of infection, they paid this claim as well. They also cover hereditary problems.

The main reason I have this is so that I never had to make a choice of how much my dog's life is worth. I would hate to ever have to struggle with doing a $5.000 surgery or losing our families best friend. Feel free to PM for more information and a link to a discount.

I highly recommend it, if you are one of those who would spend any amount of money to save your precious pet.

Couple of years ago, our 11 pound weiner dog ate almost an entire 12 pound fried Thanksgiving turkey. No, I wouldn't have thought that was possible, but apparently a weiner dog really will eat until they just cannot get anything else in there. Even after the heroic efforts at the emergency vet with the stomach pump, she developed pancreatitis. 10 days in doggy ICU meant we had a somewhat meager Christmas that year.

BTW, dog has learned nothing. Since then, she has eaten pounds and pounds of chocolate, more sets of custom molded ear plugs than I can count, and her favorite treat is chapstick. Nothing is safe from this dog. I am pretty sure nothing short of a lead lunchbox would stop this dog from getting into a container that held anything she thought to be edible.

Wow. Chocolate is supposed to be very dangerous to dogs. Does weird things to their heart rhythms. She's lucky to be alive.

My parents had a couple of poodles that got into a large bag of foiled wrapped chocolates and ate all of them, foil and all. They were just fine. It's amazing what dogs will put away.

We had a rescue basset hound that stood on her hind legs and stole stuff off the kitchen counter. I came home one day to an empty 3# bag of Hershey's kisses. I hadn't been gone long, so knew it hadn't been long. Called the vet and they had me give her 1/2 and 1/2 mustard and H2O2 by the tablespoon until she started vomiting. Our yard was sparkly for days with the regurgitated wrappers and those that had made it through, but she did OK.

Bakers Chocolate and the dark chocolates are MUCH more toxic because of the levels of the coco in them.

Now we just have a mutt that will eat rope bones until he passes "purdy" colors.... so they are taboo at our house. Dogs are so silly!
