and several other places online.

I would like to make a foray into the 1911 crowd and this seems to be a good entry price.

Although I am open to suggestions for other options in this barrel length.
No tengo mas Dinero so STI & Colt & kimber & Para are a dream away...

If I may ask...why are you set on the 3 inch? I have both a 5 inch and a 3.5 inch 1911 and honestly carry the 5 inch more often. Its not any harder to conceal then the short one for me.

Unless you have a very specific need for a 3", I would go for a full size or a 4' commander. As you go down in size with a 1911, things like spring rate, slide speed, mag spring strength, etc. become very critical and anything out of tolerance can cause problems.

That, plus increased recoil and short sight radius is why you don't see much 3" 1911s.

Does having an aluminum frame affect any of the above? The reason I ask is I could be talked into a 4 inch GI champion

I agree with gringop. If you are concerned about concealment. You can conceal a commander size just as easily.

Have you looked at CDNN Sports?

I have a 3” .45. I don’t notice the increased recoil and the sight radius is good for me. Buy what floats your boat.

I'm not sure that they make a GI 1911 .45 3 inch.

I think the closest they make is a Micro Compact 3" .45 which is a "loaded" model that has the beavertail, night sights, ....all the bells & whistles.

Best if you have a SA model number, then search for that instead of looking for a "GI 1911 .45 3 inch".

Exactly. I have two, a 5" steel framed 1911, and a 3" alloy framed 1911. I carry the 3" pistol far more frequently. The recoil on a 3" Kimber is no problem at all.

I have a steel framed 5" and aluminum framed 4" and 3".

The 5" I carry during the winter. The 3" I carry mostly in the summer. The 4" spans all seasons.

To answer an earlier question: There is nothing wrong with an aluminum frame unless you need the exercise involved in lugging around more weight.

Springfield 1911's are hard to find. I would try Gunbroker if you really want one. You should consider RIA, Armscor or American Tactical Imports. They are well made and a great value for the price.

Sharpshooters in Lubbock has one if you want to make the 120 mile drive south.

I just purchased a Springfield EMP 1911 .40 cal A nice gun but it is just a little cheaper
than the guns you mentioned. The price for one is right around $1K.
