So, been thinking a lot about building an SBR. Anyone here have one?

I am looking to stay in the 11.5" to 12" range. Uppers in that areas seem to range wildly in price.

But, I think I am getting comfortable with looking at the CMMG 11.5 Government upper or the Palmetto State 12" upper.

Any thoughts or experience to share?

No SBR here, but I do have 11.5" pistol. I've shot a 10.5" SBR owned by a guy in New Braunfels and it is probably the most convenient AR setup possible. Very light, very fast, extraordinarily accurate and so much fun!

As much as I'd love to, I still can't decide about the SBR route because I don't want the most corrupt govt bureau to know everything about me and then some.

I do not at this time have any reason to want/need a silencer... Who knows, maybe down the road.

And call me crazy, but I just need that extra barrel on this one. I already have an AK pistol in .223.

Waiting on the lower to get back from the engraver, then I'll send in the paperwork.

Guns are quite loud, even outdoors. Have you ever considered the hearing damage that you might receive if you ever had to shoot an intruder in your hallway and didn't have time to put on hearing protection first? I don't have one either, but only because I can't afford it at the moment.

I appreciate your concern, I already wear a hearing aid for damage caused by work related noise, (they didn't issue a whole lot of protective gear in the '80's...).

I really think that the last thing I'll be concerned about is damage to my hearing when protecting my family. Besides, I doubt that I could sell that one to the Chairman of the house here.

But, again, who knows, maybe sometime in the future.

I built one on SCAR 16s. The wait sucks but not too long. Like others said, it will be loud. My SCAR folds down pretty small though and feels like a big pistol when folded.

Alright, so I couldn't wait anymore...

Placed the order for the 11.5" BCM upper today, as well as mailed my Form 1 to the ATF.

Now the wait begins on two fronts.

So you you have to wait until the Form 1 comes back to pick up the upper from the dealer? Just curious how that part works.

You can order the upper and have it mailed to your house. He can even play in the garage with the door closed but legally he cant mate the two parts until the paperwork comes back.

I've just heard that to keep a zealous ATF agent from charging you with "constructive possession", its a good idea not to have the ability to complete the SBR without paperwork in hand.

So far an AR, not having a lower around to mount it on would be a good idea. I really want to SBR a Draco AK pistol, but am half considering keeping the draco stored elsewhere until paperwork is done, because my Saiga has a stock that would literally take a few minutes to drill some holes in the Draco and bolt up.

Is that just foolish black helicopter drivel, or a legitimate concern?

Legit concern. I have other AR's in hand, so Constructive Possession is a great concern of mine. The upper will be stored offsite until I get the tax stamp back.

The other way this can be done is to put a pistol buffer on a lower and mate it to the SBR upper and call it a pistol. When the stamp gets back, put it on the SBR lower.
