(GunReports.com) — A New Jersey anti-violence group tried to buy up children's toy guns to reduce Newark's record setting summer shootings.

Newark-based group Stop Shootin' Inc. held a toy gun exchange program this week. They asked children to bring in their toy guns, water pistols or cap guns and exchange them for a positive toy or a book.

Newark City Councilman Ras Baraka says more children and teenagers die each year from gunfire than from cancer, the flu, HIV/AIDS or other causes combined.

He did not comment on how many children died from being shot with toy guns.

I was on a flight from Beijing to Chongqing back in 2003 the airlines gave me a plastic knife with my meal(yes a real meal) when I unwrapped the knife it cut my finger pretty good it was amazingly sharp, I have had metal knife less sharp, now fast forward a few more days and the same airline refused me to carry on 2 wooden toy swords for my kids.

I think a buyout of water pistols at the Dollar Tree sounds like a pretty good idea.

Does anyone else take exception to this part of the comment. Is this person saying I bought my kids negative toys. Could be thats why my kids turned out so bad, oldest (son) is a engineer, youngest (daughter) started VET school this fall. Those toy guns, and the real ones really had a negative role in their upbringing.

When I was a kid in East Texas, my toy guns were a pretty positive toy as far as I was concerned. I was Sgt. Rock from the comic books, and my brother, sister, my friends and I played "army" in the woods...I had a lot of fun, got a lot of healthy exercise, and best thing was, no one ever died for real. I count those as pretty positive things...I just don't understand the liberal mindset and I never will. ACTUAL liberals, mind you...LEFTISTS, I know what they want...

You can't find a decent cap gun anymore, at least not in an averge toy store.
