Rifle bipod suggestions

I am looking at getting a bipod for my Browning A-Bolt .270.

I have never used a bipod so I am not familiar with what the good brands are, a good price, or a good size.

I would like it to attach to my sling swivel stud and be able to pivot.

I have a Ruger sniper rifle and it came with a Lewis bi-pod so they must like them. Works fine for me.

Harris is very good. a 6-9-inch "S" model (swivel) would work very well.

But I've also been pleasantly surprised with the less expensive Caldwell brand I purchased at Academy for a different gun - works just as well for about half the price. The Caldwell is shiny blued metal, whereas the Harris appears parkerized if that matters to you. Also the mechanism to expand and retract the legs is a bit different, but close enough to same.

I have a couple of Harris Bipods and a Versapod. The Versapod is a little bit heavier, but not much, than the Harris product, but it is more precise and adjustable. I prefer it, but that isn't to say that I don't like the Harris bipods. They're all pretty good for what they are. But no bipod is as good as a solid rest on some sandbags. Bipods are a solution, but they're not the best solution. They are merely portable. But if you can shoot from the prone in the field, using your pack as a rifle rest, you'll probably have better control.

Do some measuring as to what size you will need. I bought a highend Harris only to figure out I should have bought the next size larger(taller or longer if you want to say it that way).

How would I measure this and what are the determining factors for what size?

Depends alot on what position you will be shooting from, prone or from a bench or some kind of rest. The legs on the smaller bipods only have about 4 or 5 inches of adjustment in them. A good one to choose is a 9" to 13" one. It allows room for your arms to get aligned with the rifle stock better than a shorter one. If you are bench shooting, get your rifle positioned on the bench or table with sandbags at a height that is comfortable with you and measure that height and use that for a bipod selection.
