my sig p250 compact is... well, not very compact. it feels great in my hand and is a blast to shoot, but even with the 'crossbreed' style holster, it is a little too large for someone of my size to carry comfortably.

i loved the PK380 i had before it broke, so i'd like to get something in the walther line that isnt 100% poo (in my opinion) and the PPS in 9mm seems to be a perfect fit.

any input, positive or negative, is welcome and appreciated.

Memorial Shooting Center is probably easiest for me.

Love my PPS as well. Great little gun. Disappears in a crossbreed style IWB holster.

Only had one problem with it, but it was sort of a non problem - gun still fired even with broken part

i havent had any issues with my pps 9mm. it never jams and is very accurate.

personally i dont think 380 is a good self defence load.

I'm another happy 9mm PPS owner (you do know it also comes in .40 as well, yes?). As I was looking for a carry weapon, I shot all the rentals I could find. Only the SR9c came close to the PPS, overall. The PPS won out on weight, and thickness. For concealability versus stopping power, I don't think there are many that can beat it (maybe the Baretta when they come out with the single stack next year or two).

I put a couple of hundred of various types of ammo through the rental with no problem. I've only put 250 through mine, and the only hiccup came today when I think I had a squib that gave me some blow back into the face, and failed to eject. The cartridge didn't look like there was much powder in it, compared to some of the other Winchester white box rounds I was firing, so that's not a problem with the PPS.

I'f you're seriously thinking of one, I'd suggest a visit to the Walter Forum's PPS section. Great amount of data, there. It's at: http://www.waltherforums.com/forum/pps/.

I'd also suggest you get a Limbsaver grip wrap for it. The shock on the grip, unwrapped, isn't bad, but after 100 rounds your hand knows it. With the Limbsaver, today, no sweat and no tingling. You'll see many threads for it over on the Walther forum.

Best price I found was at the Fort Worth gun show from AJC Sports Inc out of Clute, Texas, for $550 cash. That's $50 less than Bud's and Grab-a-Gun. And if you purchase a new gun before Halloween, there's a $50 rebate.

I got mine from AJC as well - come to think of it, two or three different pistols from them.

I don't use any extra grip gizmo; haven't felt the need. To each their own...

My younger brother has one and it has been very reliable. I've shot it some, accurate...quick to recover from recoil.

VERY thin and flat (easy to conceal). Easy to disassemble for cleaning.

i know it comes in a .40 as well, i just settled on the 9mm caliber a long time ago and havent looked back. i think it's a perfectly capable round and it kicks a lot less than the .40s ive shot.

from the responses here, i think it's time to go grab myself a PPS.

Lengthy description in the above link, but it was basically the plastic "striker guide" in the slide. It cracked in half, but was held together by striker spring pressure and gun still fired and functioned flawlessly even with the broken part (obviously I took it out of carry rotation until part was replaced). But I think it says something about the quality of the gun that it was still functioning even with broken part.

Of course, there have been more than a few users who've reported debilitating problems with a slide stop spring issue that jams and locks the gun up tight. One of the Walther PPS specific forums had a lot of write up about this a while back, but I've not experienced it myself. Supposedly best way to avoid this issue is to avoid improperly using the slide lock as a "slide release" mechanism - gun is designed to be put into battery using the "slingshot method" (as are most Euro guns it seems).

BTW, be sure to shop around for best price as they vary widely on this gun. The $550 new price at AJC (?) reported above is very good - best I've seen. I paid $575 for mine two years ago. But "average" at most gun shops seems to be around $625-$650 and I still see plenty of outrageous $700 price tags. Also note how many mags are included. Originally PPS included 2 mags. When I bought mine factory had reduced that to one . But now I believe they are supposed to include two again. If you see a dusty old case for a "new" gun with only one mag, don't buy it unless it's about $50 less than lowest price you've found elsewhere. Spare mags for these guns still run from a low of about $45 (MidwayUSA, etc) to upwards of $60 at some gun shops.

I had a PPS in 9mm flavor. I'd say it had around 2500 rounds down the barell. 2k of them WWB and another 500 of Ranger 127 +p+. Not one problem. The only reason I sold it was it wasn't being used after I purchased a PM9. Between the PM9 and XDSC the PPS wasn't needed. Hell I still have a bunch of holsters bc I keep saying I'm going to get another one day

I have one and I like it.

Pro's: Accurate, dead reliable after the first 500 rds or so, and slim and easy to conceal.

Cons. the stupid backstrap.

I had the backstrap pop off during a mag change once. This renders the gun into an expensive brick so I took it home and took a wood burner to the seam where it connects to the frame, effectively welding it on. Covered it up with a litle stippling and It has been on there solid ever since.
