Best way to clean packing grease off a new pistol

This is the first time that I received a new pistol with so much package/storage grease on the exterior and barrel of the gun. What is the best way to get this nice and clean with out scratching the bright SS finish? The pistol is a Taurus 1911 bright stainless steel. Overall pretty impressed for the money I paid, super light trigger pull.
I appreciate your feedback,
Thanks in advance.

If it were me, I'd use a little bit of Hoppes #9 with a soft cloth.

With any new gun, I'd field strip it and clean the entire workings of the gun and then lightly oil all internal parts.

Let's see what others say. :bigear:

Brake cleaner works well also.

Send it to me. I'll take care of cleaning it off, and I'll get around to sending it back to you....................eventually.

Yes, this works. But be careful on some finishes as it's strong enough to remove bluing and some lesser painted on finishes. With a stainless gun, should be no problem. But also be very careful not to get it on any plastic/polymer parts as it could eat away at some plastics as well.

After using brake cleaner, be sure to thoroughly re-lube the gun for both corrosion resistance and operational lubrication needs because brake cleaner is a relatively strong degreaser that strips all lubrication off the parts.

Q-Tips are helpful, too. I prefer generic to brand here, as they tend to be a bit less fluffy.
