Been doing some thinking lately about picking up a new gun, but I already have a few pistols that I can carry every day no issue (1911r1 and sig p239 r the 2 big ones) and was thinking about adding a BUG to the group as well. And seeing as ammo prices seem to be (at least a little) on the rise i figured round consolidation to be a good idea. Since the 1911 is my main carry, figured 45 acp would b a good round to choose. Hence the question..... anybody have any experience with both of these pistols? Im looking for ability to conceal and still be functional and in a pinch (swimming trunks) be able to be a main carry.

G36 is the only Glock with reliability issues so Id give the nod to the M&P

Oddly enough, I've carried a G36 for almost 3 years and never had a problem. I've owned 3 G36, 2 G21 and one G30. The G36 (upgraded with SS rod and dual spring, along with +1 grip extension and slug plug) has been the best of them all. In more than 1000 rounds not a single stove top, not a ftf, not a hiccup.

Frankly, I would (and do) bet my life on the dependability of my Glock. And I abandoned a Colt Combat Commander for the concealability and weight difference -- and will never go back.

Edit: And my BUG? Though I don't actually carry it, my BUG is a 'safe queen' G36 with upgraded with SS rod and dual spring, along with +1 grip extension and slug plug!

A safe queen Glock - now that's funny stuff.

I agree. I really like the M&P platform. However, the G36 doesn't really have an equivalent in the M&P lineup, since all the M&Ps are double stacks. Another consideration if you don't like the G36 and you still want a light single stack polymer .45 is a Kahr CW45: http://www.kahr.com/Pistols/Kahr-CW45.asp. The Kahr has the same capacity, is a tad bit lighter, a tad bit shorter slide/barrel assembly, narrower, and a tad longer grip frame, making it easier to hold onto. MSRP on the Kahr is even a little less than for the Glock. Of course, what you'll actually pay will vary from dealer to dealer.

Anyway, it's another gun to consider.

To the OP I would go with the M&P, I have a M&Pc 40 and love it.

It tis a good show. I went earlier today looking for an M&P45 full size. There was only 2 at the whole show. I did not see any of the compact models. Those guns were selling fast in all calibers. I saw 2 sold from the same table in less than 20 min.

found this at the gun show and decided what the heck and got it. needed to test it and the first ten at about 15-20m were phenomenal (for me tryin to do double taps anyways) absolutely love it!

Having shot it and liked it, I can guarantee that you will absolutely fall in love with it if you add the stainless steel (dual) spring and rod (link). If your hands are good sized adding the grip extension (link) with slug plug will make it even better.

Are recoil spring assys 'generation specific'?

The link in a previous post went to a assy that was advertised as Generation 4.
